Amir Khan has set his sights on a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr within the next 18 months and is confident the mouth-watering match-up will go ahead.

WBA light-welterweight champion Khan has put in place a schedule that he hopes will lead him to the American.

The Briton, 24, takes on Zab Judah on 23 July and then plans to face Erik Morales, Kell Brook and Mayweather Jr.

"We believe in Amir and believe he is ready," Khan's promoter Richard Schaefer said. "These are big plans."

He added: "I've had conversations with Mayweather and his adviser Al Haymon and they are definitely open to a fight with Amir Khan, absolutely."

If Khan does get the chance to face Mayweather Jr, the fight is most likely to take place in the United States, though Schaefer did not discount the possibility of it being staged in Britain.

"Mayweather absolutely loves the British fans so I wouldn't rule out him fighting here," Schaefer stated.

"He feels the UK market is the biggest one for him outside the US. We'd have to see if we could do the Khan fight here from a timing and pay-per-view point of view, but it's a big stretch."

Mayweather Jr is scheduled to meet Victor Ortiz in September and Schaefer added that the 34-year-old is also keen to fight Manny Pacquiao.
Floyd Mayweather Jr will take on Victor Ortiz in September

"Floyd has indicated he would like to do the Pacquiao fight," Schaefer commented.

"He said to me he'd be open to fighting Pacquiao next if the testing issue can be sorted out.

"Amir would then fight in the autumn against Mayweather.

"I spent the last week with Mayweather and he said he wants to fight more than once per year.

"Whether he delivers on that promise, I don't know, but I really believe he does want to fight several times a year.

"He's mentioned to me the possibility of fighting in December again.

"Floyd has rediscovered his love for boxing and is ready to go. He's hungry again."

It would be great if we could get a super fight, with one of the greatest of all time Floyd Mayweather against Amir Khan in the UK. Im sick and tired of all the best fights happening in America. Mayweather for me would easily beat Khan, and probably more convincing than the Hatton victory.

Pacquiao will give Mayweather a big test, but I think Mayweather will win on points. I would worry about Khan getting past Morales, he will need to win all his fights in the mean time if he is going to get the Mayweather fight. I'd like to see Khan Pacquiao at some stage aswell, but obviously that may prove difficult when they have the same trainer

I think the best result here would be for khan to get demolished by Zab.
That may stop him looking past opponents.
In fact the best oucome would be if kell brook stopped him!

I have a funny feeling that he is gonna lose to Zab Judah

How the hell can Khan be so disrespectful to the other fighters?

He's assuming that he's going to win and is 'looking past' those fights.

I really hope it doesn't back-fire on him. He's just totally motivated Judah, Morales & Brook.

I was thinking that my self. His underestimation of Prescott got him humiliated in that match and i predict he will get humiliated by one of Judah, Morales or Brook.

He should take it match by match and not by saying he is already looking forward to Mayweather because that shows a lack of class and respect to his opposition fighters that he will he facing.

Anyone else feeling floyd may have left this too late? hes in his mid 30's now khan is 10 years younger and pacqiuo is about 3 years younger, anyone else thinking floyds natural reflexs and speed he relies on may start to fail him? in 2009 when mayweather and manny first wanted to fight id say floyd takes that with ease now with the potential fight being in 2012 3 years later quite a lot has changed manny has stayed more active and floyds taken time out.

khan will do much better than hatton did, hattone was absolute dogshit, he couldnt box, he telegraphed every decent shot he ever gave, awful boxer. I do not like khan but with his age, speed and reach he will definetly stand a better chance than hatton. Mayweather ko for this one, underated puncher because he doesnt need to, khans chin too suspect. Round 10 ko or points win by 10 on each card

^^^^ Hatton did very well considering he was an "awful boxer"!
To say hatton was dog**** is shocking. Mayweather the pound for pound king & manny are only two who beat him.
    Stupid comment

After Khan beats Judah he will be the no.1 in the division and a unified champ.
Khan has sought out the best fighters and wants to step up to welterweight next year.

Khan and Pacquiao have said they won't fight each other, so Khan's biggest fight at welter is Mayweather.

Khan has identifed this fight as one fight he wants and so has his trainer and promoter.

Khan out of everyone apart from Pacquiao at 147lbs and under has the skills and style to beat Mayweather.

Mayweather struggles with speed and the jab, Khan has great speed and a great jab.
Khan will cause Mayweather a lot of problems, he has height advantage as well and could very well jab his way to a points victory.

Khan has already beat Ortiz, show how much you know.

It was only 6/7 months ago Ortiz was getting out boxed by Petterson.

Mayweather is a counter puncher, a guy like Khan with quick hands (quicker than Mayweather) and a great jab (hard to counter) will make it very difficult for Mayweather to counter.

Oscar's jab caused Mayweather lots of problems, until he stopped throwing it, and Khan has a better jab. Judah's speed caused Mayweather more problems and stopped him counter punching, Khan is quicker.

Khan also has a decent footwork and a tight guard. A much tougher fight for Floyd than Ortiz who is taylor made for Mayweather and is the reason why he took that fight.

"Not a lot of people know that I boxed Ortiz in the amateurs and I stopped him in the second round. I beat him in the 2003 Junior Olymipc Games in Louisiana, and I remember the whole American team coming up to and saying, 'You're not going to beat this guy.' But the guy didn't hit me once. He was the number-one guy and going into the fight he was unbeaten for so long, so the odds were completely against me."

I think he should fight Timothy Bradley before stepping up. He will not be number one until he beats him........ More like a joint top

Bradley backed out with Khan this summer, If Bradley doesn't want to fight Khan, Khan can't force him.

Bradley's actions and a Khan win over Judah make Khan no.1 but a win over Bradley will put it beyond doubt.

But Khan can't wait of Bradley he has to move on with his career and move up to 147lbs.
