Lambert seemed a sensible purchase as long as we also brought in a quality striker, which we didn't

Lallana - the problem I've got with Lallana is that for 25mil there are a fair few players that cost as much or slightly more, who play in the same role and are much better than him

Lovren - Overpriced but I honestly thought we were signing a good defender.

Inter's departing midfielder Yann M'Vila is a target for Torino, but his agent says the player only wants the Premier League.

The Frenchman joined the Nerazzurri last summer on a temporary deal from Ruben Kazan, but is on the lookout for a new club this month having struggled for space under Coach Roberto Mancini.

Torino have been linked with an interest in the player, but his agent Fabrizio Ferrari has dampened their enthusiasm.

“There hasn't been an official request, even though Inter and Torino talked about it when the lad was still with the Nerazzurri,” the agent told SportMediaset.

“I think Torino would be a fantastic destination, but he's got the Premier League in his mind now and I don't know if Torino are still interested.”

Given all the fuss about him a couple of windows ago, would anyone want him now? If Inter are letting him go but are interested in Lucas, that suggests he shouldn't be in our sights (and isn't, afaik).

I would but it all hinges on his fitness and attitude. Really needs to sort it out and if he does, there's a potential worldy there.

However, I think Balotelli is a good comparison - has the talent but does he have the desire?

Actually don't think he has.

He showed plenty of talent at Rennes and France National Team where he made his debut when he was only 20, and played around 20 games for them. Was regarded as one of the best young midfielders at the time - akin to Pogba in terms of reputation across the continent.

Or were you referring to Balotelli?

Balotelli. His only talent is falling over when he's around the ball.

You mean no one complained about spending £50m on 3 Soton players before the summer?? ... ;)

You won't find many that didn't complain, the fees were ridiculous and despite Lambert being cheap, he clearly wasn't the right fit much like Mario.

However, that wasn't what I was getting at and you know it. We could all name a great side that could have been bought for the money we spent in the summer, but how many would have signed them if in Brod's shoes? That's ignoring the players feelings too.

We've been told he only good in the French league which is a low standard, you really want to pay 20 million for him?

Young, quick, good movement, can finish and has nearly 20 goals already this season.

Lower standard or not, he's a good player. I'd rather spend £20m on him who wuits our style than a combined £20m on Balotelli & Lambert.

I think you'll find most of the world's best players start in a weaker league and develop by taking the next step up in a more difficult league.

Good players adapt. Alternatively, we can sign players who have played in the PL which is obviously a stronger league, like Adam, Downing, Carroll, Henderson, Lallana, Lovren, Lambert.

Ok then everyone, you have forty million in. The summer. Name the players you buy and the price?

First thing I would do is remove Rodgers away from the recruitment process - the only input he should have is the position that needs filling.

In fact, I'd sack him.

Next season, we should buy a proper striker but only after we sort out defence and midfield.

GK - Kevin Trapp. Has a release clause of £4m. We should be all over that.

RCB - Schar's contract is running out soon so he could come for around £10m. N'Koulou is another good shout. Hoewdes could be perfect as the centre of a back 3. A proper leader.

DM/CM - Lars Bender, Kondogbia, Carvalho. £20m for one of them.

AM - This position is a luxury at the moment but Firminio, Kovacic are quality young players.

CF - Lacazette but I feat he is now on the radars of the bigger clubs who will most likely get CL. Kevin Volland and Aubaymeng are decent alternatives.

Your constant negativity is becoming somewhat tedious <whistle>

What if (as suspected) your Brod vs Committee theory is complete BS? Removing Brod could make things much much worse :)

Maybe it is BS - but then we get someone like De Boer in who can at least coach a defence, build a solid foundation and ensure the team is tactically disciplined. <ok>
