Bojan is out for the rest of the season with his cruciate injury, will he be the same player when he gets back? Very unlucky for him as he was just getting used to the Prem and beginning to show what all the fuss was about when he was younger.
Rather buy no-one than waste money on the wrong player. It's not as if there's a wealth of talent being transferred to other clubs this window either.
We need to be in the Champions League - the owners understand the importance of what CL qualification means. We're not spending any money this Jan. (for me) is a sign they don't want to back Rodgers. We recalled Ibe and wanted to bring Origi back. That's it.
Given they've chucked over £200m at his signings in his 2 1/2 years can you blame them? Sell to buy was always likely to be their chosen strategy this window, given the £100m+ largely spunked on noddy's last window, and there's obviously been no interest in those you'd let move on.
I posted ages ago that there was no money to be made available in this transfer window. Someone could find it somewhere. It's nothing to do with Rodgers.
Youth players can only progress so much at that level before they need a chance at the highest club level football. Our youth seem to just sit at reserve/U21 level and never get a chance at senior level so they'll never progress. Only Sterling and Flanno have had a proper go in our first team (Flanno only down to injury) and look how well they've done? Then you look at the ones we've released because they 'weren't good enough' but they never got a real chance. Flanno was considered the third best RB in the reserves when he got his chance and he did fine! Imagine what others players could do... I think our youth are very gifted. I think Rodgers needs to have faith in them and bring more into the first team (like he promised the owners) rather than looking elsewhere or even at other clubs' youngsters. It's been well known that we've got **** all money to spend this January and need to sell to buy if we want business. Unless Mario, Borini or Lucas (he still wants out) get offers, no one's coming in. That means Rodgers needs to dip into the reserves and give them a chance. There is zero point in a top class academy and constant investment in youth players if there's nowhere for them to progress to. Spend big on a goalkeeper and CB. Promote youth for the other positions. Keep Lucas. Send Johnson to the cafe to make sandwiches. This January was always going to be quiet.
Ed Malyon @eaamalyon 19m19 minutes ago Been told that Liverpool were in Portugal to watch Ruben Neves again last weekend. Highly-rated http://mirr.im/1BuYLem
Is he a wonderful technician? Seriously though, have you seen much of him Bluff? Is he a defensive mid,or creative attacking?
He's not a destroyer ala Mascherano/Wanyama. He's more of a shield who will occupy the space in front of the defence. Relies on spatial awareness and intelligence. Classy on the ball too and can start attacks.
I'd love to know when we have zero intent of buying how we have to travel and rack up cushy expenses when you could see a video just as easy
I'm glad that we do. Can't go off videos alone.....and we should always be looking ahead to the next few windows. We should have players in the bag much earlier than we currently do to avoid the Sanchez/lack of strikers thing happening again!!
Agreed. Very young lad with incredible potential. I would prefer a more physical DM - plus we already have Chirivella who is in the same mould/
What I do not understand is how Porto (and Portuguese clubs) manage to integrate young players year after year and still remain relatively successful. They always seem to have some gems with ridiculous buy out clauses.
