Very interesting one running at Chelmsford City (cor blimey what a terrible name for a racecourse by the way) at 4.10 of the morrow. The one who a fortnight or so ago I was dropping hints about re the ‘Freddie Winter’ at the old Festival. He has his ‘prep’ for that race tomorrow but it needs to be Remembered with a capital ‘R’ that the outing is the animals ‘hors d'oeuvre ’ before the ‘main course’ it is not, I say not, the ultimate target.

VOSNE ROMANEE had 13 outings on the level for Keith Dalgleish proving above average as he won twice and finished runner-up a further 4 times. However, it is over timber that he has really come into his own winning a pair of juvenile hurdles, placing on his other 3 starts and achieving a perch of 126. He won’t run over hurdles again prior to Cheltenham in order to protect that lenient looking mark.

Tomorrow’s race over 10 furlongs looks ultra tough but you would have to think that Vosne Romanee could be highly competitive off 65 as not only did he have decent form when with old boy Dalgleish but he deffo seems to have improved since moving South to join the forum’s third favourite Doctor. In the debit column though again I stress it is a ‘prep’ run and the horse hasn’t run for some 4 months.

Re the ultimate target at Cheltenham, incidentally, is at the time of writing a 25/1 shot.

What I want to know is how come you know as much about this horse as I do! No secret that I was a whisker away from having a share in this one till someone threw a spanner in the works!
Has been having a winter break in order to come back fresh as Barney says for a crack at the Fed Winter. That looks a bit of a windmill tilt to me as he was pretty exposed earlier in the season. This is his prep and as such he probably will need the run but as Barney rightly points out he has almost certainly improved since last being seen on the level.
Is it a coincidence that Nass and I bought into Foxtrot only two failures!?!?
The syndicate has recently given the good Dr a donation to find the next rising star, I shall inform you when I know more!

Stick, to quote Manuel from Fawlty Towers, ‘I know nothing.’

I did see that he was owned by ‘Foxtrot Racing’ and I knew it ran a bell somewhere. Should have connected old boy Nassau and The Knight!

Last term the good Dr did something similar with a horse called Changing The Guard. I was at God’s own racecourse, Newton Abbot, when he won a summer novice chase ultra impressively and he was put away shortly afterwards, once again to preserve his perch, for a tilt at the Grand Annual. I did back him ante-post for this heat. Reappeared a month before Cheltenham in a hurdle race but we won’t dwell on how he did at Cheltenham! Changing The Guard has since though gone in, off the same mark, in a decent contest.

I’ve always been of the opinion that early season juvenile form can often be overlooked by the handicapper and punters and don’t think Vosne Romanee is that badly treated off 126. He’d have to be though to win a ‘Fred Winter’.

I see that the horse has drifted out to 4/1 now re today’s race. That doesn’t appear bad but, of course, in the back of my mind am always remembering that this is no more than a ‘prep’.

Not tipping it but I see that one of the best bred horses ever to run in the NH sphere makes it bow today. HIGH BRIDGE, a son of Monsun, is out of a 1,000 Guineas winner and the full brother to a Listed victor. Fascinating to see how he gets on in the ‘lucky last’ on Tyneside (4.20). Those bookie chappies taking no chance re him though and are very short.

As I’ve been told off on other threads I won’t say anything negative whatsoever about the chap who climbs aboard him later today!

Leic 4.00 Vaild Point @ 8/1 gets 1 more chance for me - if he can recapture his hurdles form he should go very close.

It's working out very well and i'm a little surprised they've not forecast him closer to the head of the market.

Tough ask for such a young horse to always be giving weight away to experienced handicappers!
