I agree with Itchyen North MAtt on taking whatever is offered just to get rid.... I realise that won't happen because Nicola will apply good business sense and get as much as he can for him, but we mustn't get carried away in expecting a huge figure, afterall we have been telling the world he's a bad egg; that'll bring the price down a bit.
It's a real shame that he never worked for us because he could have been a great player. I think he could probably find his way back into the Prem, before he went a bit AWOL I would have probably said he is our best player for technical ability. His best two games for us were Huddersfield (5-0) and Bristol Rovers (5-1). The abuse he got from the crowd at the start of the season probably finished off any chance he had, which I find quite sad.
If he's really not in the frame of mind to play for us, the options are to sell him now and get something or wait for his contract to run out and get nothing. It's a no-brainer while there are teams out there who might want to buy him.
As much as his face would be a sight when he's training with the youth team, I wouldn't pay his presumably fairly sizeable wages and miss out on a transfer fee to see it happen.
I'm sure this has been explained in some detail before but could someone please tell me what we know went on with Puncheon. The way I saw it, the crowd got on his back first, there's no doubt about that. He was a frustrating, often lazy player so some stick was no doubt deserved - though I'll never condone that manifesting itself as booing. There's no doubt he has ability but it needed to be harnessed properly and clearly his attitude distorted a lot of his quality. In between the time where the crowd started booing etc and when he left, something was done to piss off Nigel so I don't imagine that NA overreacted. All I hear is that he felt that he was too big for SFC. What happened?
Ask DTLW, he's mates woth Puncheon's dad, so may have some insider gossip. A whisper I heard was a bust-up with Andy Crosby. Whatever it is though, its pretty serious if he's not travelling with the squad when he's available and talented. True, the stick he got wasn't fair, but throwing toys out of the pram wasn't the way to deal with it.
it would be good to offload this negative player!! personally £800k - 1m and i would bite there hand off!! personally someone bit younger like robson kanu or michael antonio from reading would be nice
Shame Puncheon did not work out - but it would seem that he has a poor attitude and 'rotten apples etc' is not what we need in the changing room. AP brought him to SMS; he is welcome to take him of our hands; the gossip was we wanted £1M last season for him (I recall we turned down Millwall's reported £500K offer) - so one would have thought his stock has increased with good performances for Millwall and Blackpool; so I think at least £1.5 would be our asking price.
Getting a player that doesn't want to be there and that is upsetting the team is important, so I would be happy to get rid of him, although he is a good player. Also, as an avid FM player, I know how good Lua Lua is/can get. If we got him and money for Puncheon, it would be time for a
saw that, deal not concluded but almost certain anyway.
Ollie - u said you wanted to buy him permanently - we all know that most of us on this site will drive Punch up there ourselves to make this happen!! Put your money where your mouth is!
