Koeman said we may need to think about transfers. He also said Jay isn't for sale ( but we knew that already).

Koeman:When looking at the bench you have Long then all the rest are under21's. That's difficult.

Yet he is saying no signings...
I assume it is because we are missing 6 non U21 players (not counting Mayuka as he is garbage)
Basically leaves us one injury from having to have an U21 on the bench. When you consider we have had one player injured all season that does not look good

Hope it doesn't come back to bite us. I am usually more positive than most but at the moment I fail to see how it can't ....

He seems to have changed his mind.

I'm never sure how much of comments aboutno interest are purely smokescreens

But it seems a fairly drastic change of mind perhaps not just limited to adding one more attacking player as his comment was about the whole bench

I don't think it would be a problem having several bench players but 2-3 are probably not up to it yet and so are thus only there to cover for injuries rather than the other role of substitutes - trying to change the game

And if that's the takeaway from today's loss, it's a positive. Given that we're in the late stages of the window, it also suggests that there are moves available, if we deem them beneficial.

Sky reporting:
Villarreal have confirmed an agreement is in place for defender Gabriel Paulista to join Arsenal. As part of the deal Joel Campbell will go the opposite way on a loan until the end of the season.

Pity we can't have Campbell on loan.

99% of managers hide the truth.

I seem to recall Koeman telling us we had no chance of signing Alderweireld

We definitely need a striker now. A rib injury will have a long recovery time

I think we all felt a title nervous about the strength in depth of our strikers but now with Shane out for a week or two, even RK is coming round to our way of thinking.
Even if JRod was in training he would take a few weeks to get up to speed after such a long lay off and as for Sam G, I am yet to be convinced but again he will need a few weeks to get match fit.
Basically without reinforcements up front we are close to being in deeeeeep sh*t

At least we'll be a bit stronger when Long is back if we get a new guy in. The new guy could be better than Long so we could be stronger even before Long's back.

Even if he wasn't going to Villarreal, Arsenal wouldn't let us have him.

We can rule out loaning anyone from Arsenal, Utd, Spurs and Liverpool between now and the end of the window.

He's also been pretty pants with opportunities he's had in English football. Living off his world cup hype at the minute. Maybe we'd go in for him if we were looking for top 10, but if top 4 is a serious possibility we need better players.

Which is along the lines of why I'm struggling to see us bringing in anyone from this country in loan. It would surely have to be from abroad.

The clubs I have mentioned can be ruled out, because they are not going to help out a rival. Chelsea can be ruled out because we already have Bertrand on loan from them. And surely the bottom 12 or 13 clubs PL clubs can be ruled out, because why we would be looking at any of their fringe players when we're trying to get top four? All in all, that only leaves City. And even they might decide we're too close to them to help us out.

There is one situation where Chelsea is a possibility: if we complete Bertrand's transfer. I wouldn't rule out Chelsea grabbing the chance to twist the knife with Man U/Arsenal/Liverpool by farming out one of their attacking options.
