To be fair to City it might actually be a decent warm-up for their FA Cup game, apart from the venue and travelling.
Most of those involved could probably do with some playing time and the opposition are of a decent standard.

As I've said before though, winter break my arse. All of the bigger clubs would just be doing this every time.

Looks like Juan cuadrado will be joining the chavs, shame really hes a player I've always liked, will be nice to see him in the premier league, just not for them. On the plus side least he won't be playing against us in the Europa. Maybe this will mean either Shurrle or salah will be leaving, I'd personally take either one of them.

    <laugh>

What do they expect when the majority of punters at the Bridge are there on corporate freebies :bandit:
Any cheering is coincidental, like when certain stock price go up at the same time someone scores a goal

"London's only European Champions" the name makes me <laugh> Shrinking the scope so as to desperately attempt to show greatness.
Like saying "Wickam Street's only Chip shop" or "I'm the best fooballer.. in my bedroom at this very second" <laugh>

Mirrallas isn't the only Belgian that is **** at penalties. Mertens just missed one in the opening minutes for Napoli. I had him to score first too <grr>

I heard yesterday that ManC are getting back into the country at 0700 on Saturday from their promotional jolly. The arguments about effects on performance are obvious but I have another consideration. What happens if there is problems with the flight, air traffic control strikes etc? Presumably the game gets postponed. I would argue that instead of this, ManC should have to forfeit the game as they failed to appear at the correct time. They would argue reasons beyond their control, but since the return time is entirely in their control they could easily have flown back the day before. Never happen of course because the FA wouldn't dare oppose a team with that sort of power, but it would be interesting if their opponents took them to a civil court over it. All hypothetical but I am kind of hoping they don't get back in time to see what happens!

At the very least I hope they're not capable of playing well (even in first class it's hardly good preparation for a match) - but if they go out of the cup all that will happen with the free weekend they get in the next round will be that they'll go and play another friendly somewhere else in the world for the £££!

And well said earlier that if there was a winter break, the teams would just use it to play promotional matches in warm places.

I read they land at 6pm this evening and then go straight to their new sleeping accommodation they have recently installed at their new training centre. But yes, it does some a risky strategy even flying back today. I would have thought the PL would have rules like UEFA, where you have to be in the country at least 24 hours before scheduled kick off time.

Not far from the truth! You can see the same bunch of, know **** all about the game ****ers, at Twickenham very soon. They may know SFA about the game, but love singing Sweet Chariot!....

Still find it odd that predominantly white upper middle class Englishmen should choose a song written by a black American slave which refers to an underground movement that helped slaves to escape.

What is Peter Herbert's view about this then? It must have one - but I've missed him spouting it. Surely it's a little inappropriate and disrespectful at the very least in his eyes, isn't it? Shouldn't these rugger fans be censored and re-educated? If it's not stopped now, they might be tempted to expand their songbook. Whatever next? "The Sun Has Got His Hat On"? Better they stick to something by Noel Coward like "Mad Dogs And Englishmen."

Cambridge v Utd is dreadful. It's like the footballing equivalent of turbulence. Will it be over soon?

I agree. I can't remember how the stupid song got started at Twickenham, but I'm heartily sick of hearing a bunch of clueless ****s singing it!...

I'd prefer four and twenty virgins myself. If they need a few additional verses, I can provide them!

I hope they get their replay at O.T. It would be a tremendous payday for a small club like Cambridge.

Given the song only gets sung when England are 12+ points up in the last five minutes, does that mean it will never be heard if England lose all their home games in the Six Nations?

Better hope Scotland and Italy do the business, then...

I remember hearing some years ago that one of the players name was Chariot, hence the root of the song which caught on and has now become standard practice.
I personally love it. When the crowd are in full verse I find it very moving same as the Spurs crowd in full voice with 'When the Spurs go marching in'. Theres something about a male voice choir that tickles my fancy!
