Messi was the 2nd best player this year in a vote, Ronaldo first. Voted for by professionals in the game.
Now I'd take their vote over your inane rambling and facepalms all day.

As for his scoring record, again you know nothing about Messi beause only after some years did he play the role of main goal scorer, he was not always employed in that role. So, not a career at all, the last 5-6 years or so is where the majority of his goals have come. You clueless nitwit

You are starting to sound like UIR, calling Messi a burden <laugh> Barca have gone through transition after Pep left, hte following manager had cancer and was away in New York as much as managing, Messi has not played as brilliantly as he has for 7 years and as soon as he is not at the absolute pinnacle you douchebag media fans all start talking ****e, and no you don't watch Barca, you are full of cack beause if you did, you'd see how good Messi actually is.

your rambling about "winning nothing" just shows you don't even get the basic principle of the Ballon D'Or <laugh>

Bbf doesnt watch la liga so dont believe a word he says.

He just waffles random bollocks then meltsdown shortly after. Hes unstable. Most theorists are like that.

Not how he says footballers voted for it so it must be right. A quick read of the liverpoil board shows this didnt apply when speaking about ADM.

His nonsense is better laughed at and mocked.

This same clown thought Suarez was the 3rd best player in the world last season. Nobody else did. Well those of us with eyes and brains.

Dont reply bbf. I enjoy your meltdowns but they are a little too frequent.

Messi scored 28 goals and 11 assists in La Liga last season (ronaldo got 31/10) and has scored 16 so far this season and 8 in CL (ronnie has 5).

Of course he is still the second best player in the world

It seems that its you who is clueless. Messi has always played as a forward. Not always a centre forward but a forward nonetheless. Ronaldo plays as a forward on the left and still scores loads. Messi used to play as a forward on the right, but he still used to swap a lot with Eto'o and play centrally during the game. Either way it's hardly like he was ever playing defence was it? He scored his first La Liga goal on his debut as a substitute, so I'm not sure how you can argue that he has not been building that tally up throughout his full career.

Obviously the Ballon Do'r is an individual award, but football is a team game, so what a player helped his team win should be taken into consideration.

There have been years when Messi has won the Ballon Do'r himself when Barca have had a better year than Real, yet Ronaldo had scored more goals than Messi. So Messi has won the award based on his teams performances in the past!

I did not say Messi was a burden for Barcelona, I said he was a burden in the WC for his country. The 4 knockout games he was non existent, hence why Argentina could not score, and didn't score for over 300 minutes of football before they where beat in the final. They relied on there resilient defence to get them as far as they did. Messi was the go to man in attack for them and he failed to deliver, they kept giving him the ball in the hope he would do something, but to no avail. I was watching the game with some friends who are Argentinian and they where slating the guy from start to finish. He is no Maradona in there view <laugh>

As far as the credibility of the votes, please do me a favour, if you take one look at who voted for who you will clearly see it is full of clueless voters, and tactical voting.

Roy Hodgsons votes, and the inclusion of David Luiz in the team of the year should be enough to convince even you of that

I completely agree that Messi's player of the tournament award was shocking but even an average Messi season is much better than 99% of footballers so he definitely deserves to be in the short list. You could make a case for a German player like say Kroos or Schweinsteiger but I still don't think they are on Messi's level consistently.

Ronaldo deservedly won but Messi still scored 50 goals for Barca last year, if you don't think he's deserved 2nd place you're mental.

Team of the year had a couple of joke inclusions yet again. I could name dozens of defenders who had a better year than Luiz, it's hilarious that they even put three centre halves in there. AND a fair few midfielders who had a better year than Iniesta.

Messi was poor by his own standards in the knockouts, but was hardly non-existent v Switzerland. he was VG and made Tia Maria's winner.

Then again, you are the poster who thought Germany were ****e and running on empty, so maybe we should disregard your expert analysis

Messi's just smashed a hat-trick. Without doubt the second best player in the world by a mile

News Flash it is now 2015!

I didn't think Messi was the 2nd best player in 2014, he barely did a thing in any important matches, he was poor in the CL knockout games, and he played dreadful in the WC knockout matches.

Argentinas tactics in the WC where defend for your lives and give the ball to Messi every time they attacked, this resulted in his team not being able to score any goals. If his country hadn't over relied on Messi and used some of the other good players they have, they may have been able to score a few more.

If you are going to play with those tactics the go to man needs to deliver, just like Maradona and Zidane among others did for there country's, but Messi flopped on the biggest stage.

I was watching the final with some of my Argentinian friends, and they where all slating the guy.

Messi might have scored quite a few goals last year, but they weren't in important matches

That means nothing. Most England fans slate Wayne Rooney, it doesn't mean Wayne Rooney is ****.

It means most England fans are bitter bellends.

Rubbish. Messi was v good at the Etihad and the best player on the field in the return in the knockout CL game v City. He scored in both games.

He was the stand-out player v Switzerland in the knockout match in Brazil then poor afters. As for Messi not scoring any goals in the World Cup, he scored four in the group stages, all the winners, all important.

He didn't have a bad game at the unimportant Classico at the Bernabeu either, when he scored a hat-trick v Real.

Wrong again. First goal from open play.

Messi was superb in Feb and March, two superb performances v City and two La Liga hat-tricks. At his very best

I'd go with Harry Kane so far, he sunk your lot and Arsenal in big games. It will be between Messi and Ronaldo come the end of the year though
