How are all your animals Kellen. Hope they survived all the smoke etc. Been reading your blog...great stuff!!
Good news. I ve got chooks as they call them over here and could not do without them.Hope things get better for you now, and City triumph tomorrow to make it a good few days.
The current count is 19 houses and 48 outbuildings that burned down. Some of my animals are at my girls uncles house, he is going to bring them back over in the next couple days. The ones that got away from him and returned were pretty badly off when I got home. They had run out of water at some point and didnt look like they would have lasted much longer. It was well over 100 degrees every day so it must have been pretty hard on them. I got tons more wild animals on my place right now than normal. All the ponds and such dried up a long time ago so without access to the river in the canyon they are in trouble. I counted 15 deer in my back yard at one time which probably means there were 40 or so during the day yesterday. Normally you will see 1 or 2 at a time, I got about 10 or so that are always on my place. I filled up a bird bath for them and had to refill it a few times as the herd basically took turns drinking out of it. I even saw a bobcat this morning in my manzanita which I hadnt seen on my place before, it ran off before I could take a photo. Thanks, I really do need to update the blog more, I have a tendency to go a couple weeks between posts.
So pleased all not as worse as 1st feared elle....enjoyed our Gonzalez chat.....think i wud have him over Maguire but what do we know? my school just suffered major flooding and thanks to insurance the kids never had it so good when they comeback after summer hols!.....every cloud pal
How's the recovery coming along ellewoods? In the area as well as your place. Any pics of the destruction the blaze caused?
I walked over but I felt bad about taking photos of peoples places that had burned down. Basically its either grass that has burned which doesnt really look impressive or someone has lost everything, there doesnt seem to be to much middle ground. As far as the recovery goes most people probably wont rebuild. If you dont have insurance you are screwed if you do they give you a check for the value of rebuilding your place. One couple told me they were going to take their check and move to a place that rains. This just isnt a place people really move to. Its about an hour and half one way commute to Sacramento and most people in Cali want to live near the coast or a real city. The land isnt worth much so I would think the lots will probably just stay empty. There were already lots of empty land around me so there will probably just be more now. Pretty sure that you can find empty land for about $3,000 an acre, as that seems to be the price people are selling it for on the feed store bulletin board. One would imagine that burned land is probably far less, and there seems to be no shortage of that in California. Edit: Here is a place that is about 20 min closer to the city than me and it is 113 acres for 369k so basically $3,265 an acre or 1,937 pounds. http://www.landwatch.com/El-Dorado-County-California-Land-for-sale/pid/301609767
Anyone want to see a cool photo of a Bald Eagle? This was taken by one of my neighbors on the road in front of my house about 400 yards down the street. Its over a deer carcass and has been eating it for the last few days. Its normally flying around and I have seen it lots of times but this is the best photo of it I have seen anyone take. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Isn't the Bald Eagle a national symbol? Eisenhower was the last bald president. Well there was Gerald Ford but he wasn't elected. Americans don't vote for baldies. Presidents have to have a good head of hair.
Look at this list of National birds. http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_birds All those rock hard, **** with me at your peril, airborne raptors and we get the bleedin' Robin and the gay little wren. What's more they're not even officially recognised. I'm gonna start a campaign.
