He was still only Barca 's 3rd highest scorer that year, Eto'o and Messi scored more. So he wasn't that important a player for them, as they had 2 superior forwards. Ronaldinho wasn't even a Barcelona player in 09, so not sure how he tore Madrid a new one with him He was sold to AC Milan in 08! Like I say Henry was a top player, but was he good enough to be a key player for one of Europe's elite sides? No He was good enough though to play a supporting role, to assist the superior attackers Barca had! Main man for Arsenal, supporting role for Barca
I've read plenty of bullshit in my day, but this one is the biggest piss take I've seen on this site yet. Please don't ever have children or try indoctrinating them with this drivel.
It was easy for Henry to be the main man at Arsenal when his strike partner Bergkamp was scoring 1 goal in 5 He was playing with truly world class attackers at Barca, a whole different ball game
Ban me for ribbing you guys back on a thread titled Manchester United, a thread that was only made to have a pop at us. If you can't take it, don't dish it out
Ronaldino i.e what he did in 2006 at the Bernabeu, that was one of the best individual performances against Madrid at their own stadium, and Henry followed suit (ironically also in that same year for Arsenal) in 2009.
Have never understood why rival fans cannot appreciate great players from other teams. I have no love for United at all, but Giggs is still one of the best players I have ever seen in the flesh, Henry is definitely up there too. Tribalism really does warp peoples sense of reality sometimes.
Despite the rivalry, I would say Berkamp and Henry were 2 of the greatest players ever to play in our leagues in my lifetime. Converting Henry from a winger was an act of genius and some of the venom towards Wenger should bear this in mind. If I recall correctly, his career had stalled and he was going nowhere when he came this country. I also think that Arsenal had the best of him. He wasn't the same player for Barca (from what I saw) or France after leaving. But I think that he was just starting to decline physically by then (relatively young still) not that he couldn't have hacked it at his prime.
Arsenal had the best of Henry because Henry was the main man for them, he was always there talisman. He was the player others always looked for. For France Zidane was the main man, and for Barca he was probably about 5th in line. With the likes of Messi, Eto'o, Xavi and Iniesta all being more important players. It was a little like Berbatov, he was superb at Spurs but he was never quite the same for us. As for Spurs he was the go to man, yet at Man Utd he was no longer top dog, as Ronaldo and Rooney where in the team among others. It is sometimes easier to shine when playing in weaker teams as you get more of the ball, and it gives you confidence when your team mates always look to you as the best player in the team. Henry for Barca was basically just asked to do a job out wide for them, it wasn't the position he wanted to play. He always played on the left of a front 2 for Arsenal not as a wide man. Don't get me wrong Henry was a quality player, he just wasn't one of the elite players of his generation IMO, as he was never a key player for a top European side
I give plenty of rival players credit, only last week I was backing you Chelsea supporters up on why Lampard deserved his spot in the top 10 English midfielders
Why was United a top European Side between 2001 and 2006 and Arsenal weren't? They did just as well in Europe if not better than United in those years, Got to the final itself in 06.
Right. You don't half spout some complete crap. Your player comparisons are some of the most bizarre things ever. Can you not just accept a player was brilliant without looking at his ****ing goal to game ratio, stats or comparing him to somebody else? Calling players like Bergkamp, Zola and Henry 'overrated' just shows you up to be the moron you are. Stick to the racecourses.
2006 was the only year Arsenal went further than us in the competition. We all know aswell they finished miles off the pace domestically, and had a lucky route through to the final. So 1 year out of 6 they did better than us? Hardly worth comparing is it. Our main man Van Nistlerooy won 3 Champions League golden boots in that time, where as Henry won none. Henry never delivered consistently in Europes premier competition, and that's probably why they had such a poor record in the competition, with the exception of 06. Van Nistlerooy led his team like the great player he was, Henry and Bergkamp for that matter never could against the best defenders in Europe
I'm glad the Chavs on here can see what bias the Manc against Thierry Henry. All this crap about him being a big fish in a small pond at Arsenal and a second rate player for Barca and France etc is utter sh1te. Should Utd ever have been fortunate enough to have Henry in their squad (it didn't and never would have happened) he would have shat all over RVN, Rooney, RVP and he would have been their best striker ever too. In terms of ability, skill, pace, execution and style he was the best striker the premier league has seen. The club record scorer for Arsenal, World cup winner with France, Champions league winner with Barca. The bloke is a legend in football and would have walked into any team in the world. The manc has a serious case of deluded bias
I just read that again. Comparing him to Berbatov at Utd and Henry was probably one of the best attacking player of his generation. You're either blind as **** or just out and out wumming, either way you're a cockend
Lampard is probably the best ever midfielder of his generation and before you proffer the name of that vindictive bandy legged ginger gobshite stop right there. Compare goals to games ratio, compare their longevity, compare their England stats, Lampard truly is the best of the rest from these isles lock, stock & barrel. Now piss off knobend
