I actually said I'd prefer Bony out of all the players we were seriously linked too (after Sanchez went to Arsenal) but that was more a case of the best of a bad bunch. I still don't think he'd be a perfect fit but he'd have definitely made us a better team in hindsight.
I preferred Sanchez as well. I'm trying to remember who we were linked with. Lacazette - didn't know anything about him. Remy - I remain unsold, although his style is more similar to what we're used to. Origi - looked good at the WC, fits our style more, was younger and cheaper. Lambert -never could get my head around it, but he was cheap (but that's not a sufficient reason to buy someone). Anyone else?
I remember the stories, but were we really linked strongly though? Particualry with regards to Cavani, I thought it was basically one phone call and that was it. I think the Falcao rumours lasted a bit longer, but was it really a serious option? Both of them looked too expensive wages-wise to really be proper options.
Those two weeks of the year where both he and Sturridge are fit will be awesome! ;-) Great player, but do we really need another injury-prone player? Isn't he a luxury that we probably can't afford right now (i.e. put the money to better use elsewhere)?
I asked a French colleague about how Lavezzi's been - this was his opinion: Lavezzi is good 1 game out of 3, often injured, rarely decisive (14 goals in 73 league games). He is an enigma to me because when on form he is a very fast, powerful, technical player… At 8M£ it seems to be a good idea though, if you manage to ship Ballotelli out! Not exactly a ringing endorsement...
simply put no..... he had a few injuries here yes, i don't know about before. If heis price is knock down and he is fit he is a far better player than we'd get elsewhere. We've bought crocks before though... he has to be fully 100% fit and injuries cleared by an actual proper medical (send him to us, lets admit our lot are crap)
I did say 'seriously' for a reason. I don't think we were ever truly in for the likes of Lacazette, Lavezzi, Tevez, etc. We were clearly wanting Sanchez and when that fell through we didn't have a Plan B (unlike Brod ) Edit: Cavani was never a realistic option IMO, much like Benzema. Falcao obviously was but I was never keen on the cost.
I would assume that's all in, wages, fee etc etc. Either way its all bullshit, never mind the ridiculous fee that would have to be paid and the wages that would be needed you'd almost certainly be in breach of FFP.
How much did FSG buy us for? Was around £200m, wasn't it? If so, Messi is apparently worth twice as much as us as a club
On Gerrard: Asked if that could mean a return on loan next January, Ayre said: “It’s conceivable. It happens a lot in MLS and it’s something we talked to Steven and his representatives about. You can’t have someone who has so much of the club’s DNA in them and just expect that it will go away.” http://www.theguardian.com/football...ol-return-mls-ayre-la-galaxy?CMP=share_btn_tw
Urgh. Just when we were getting shot of an overused, overpaid under-performer. Please don't come back Steve, if yo really want the best for the club, you'd see you're just a hindrance now.
Gerrard is still our best individual player. The problem is he doesn't suit the style of play and when he is played its in the wrong area of the pitch. If we're going to play him then push him forward where his lack of legs won't be such a issue, don't play in a critical holding role.
