According to the Sun Jack Cork is set to leave Southampton after refusing new contract. We were supposed to be interested at one time. Possibility?
After agreeing to sell our Star Player, I feel nothing but totally underwhelmed by the rumours of all the players being mentioned.
Stereo, we're surely trying to build a team that is more than the sum of its parts. A big name may not be our saving grace. We have to get players with the right attributes that complete our team regardless of reputation (to a point) By the Cisse rumour, however, I am completely underwhelmed also
Aren't Saints about to sell Schneiderlin to Man Utd...? If so that would see Cork back in the team and I imagine he would sign the contract...assuming they don't go out and replace him immediately.
I have been told that there will be no new buisness done by us in January, how true i don't know but it was from someone high up in the club. Could be just paying lip service. So if Cork signing is true more than likely in the summer. But if he did become available now things could change.
I agree, but when we spent that money on Bony, I felt excited by it because he wasn't a big name really, just a player who was demanding a relatively high price because of what he had achieved at Vitesse. I wouldn't want us to blow a lot of money on a journeyman high profile name either, just someone who is demanding a high price because of their perceived potential. The names so far seem rather unwanted by their present clubs rather than clubs desperate to hold on to them.
I doubt we will bring anyone in this month, our track record for January is not that impressive.............
Apart from Siggy. You are right though and I always get excited by the prospect of possibly strenghthening only to totally underwhelmed when we sign some ****e.
The last type of players we need are Journeymen. We need to get the right player and if that dont happen until the summer then we will have to cope with it. We are not exactly desperate for a striker as long as we have gomis, emms and co and we should pay more intention in getting some height in the squad as we are rubbish at dealing with set pieces, corners etc..
Whilst I agree that the summer is the best time to make signings we shouldn't dismiss a January signning if some one really good becomes available. On the subject of Bony I am pleased that I was able to see a player like him in our team but players move on and this mustn't stop us from moving forward..
I know I've said this before but if a decision has definitely been made not buy in January then the worst scenario is that the Gomis £7M trigger goes off right on the deadline. A disaster imo.
Theres a lot of rumours flying about that we are going to reinvest most of the money made on Bony into training facilities etc so Garry wont be having that much left to play with... But we originally had 12m to play about with when we first bought him. So why does what we paid for him before now suddenly get written off? If it was available then, its available now. Say we only decide to spend 3m made on the Bony deal on players. That should give us 15m to spend. The remaining 10-13m can then be reinvested into the club. Everyones happy.
I assume it's got something to do with expectations. Clubs tend to expect a bigger transferfee if they know that the bidding club has a lot of money. I think it's about keeping the expectations as low as possible at other clubs and at the fans. I'm pretty sure that the money needed will be available if the right player is available at a right price.
No one is leaving Saints in this window and although Cork hasnt yet signed a new contract he's not turned it down either. Morgan may leave in the summer but not in January when we sit 3rd.
Fair enough, any ideas why Cork is holding of signing? Would he be looking at getting a move to get more game time?
I think he just wants to see how much he plays and then will look again in the summer. Just keeping his options open I guess.
Fair play lads looks like I was wrong and he's on his way to you after all. Great player. @JimWhite: Swansea set to spend some of the Bony money - hearing fee agreed with Southampton for Jack Cork #swans #saintsfc
