Think signing another centre back (even on loan) goes against the principles of the club.

It maybe tough in January, but i'd like us to sign a younger right back. I'm not aware of who plays right back for the u21s at the moment, but I've not heard anything positive. Sam Byram sounds like he could be a good potential purchase or maybe Trippier in the summer(Clyne replacement).

Do feel we need a striker who is more Pelle than Long. How far away is Gallagher from returning? If we can get a Billy Sharp deal to help with the run-in then that would be a result. Everywhere else seems pretty set

McCarthy played well there in pre-season.

(PS. I think we are a bit above Billy Sharp now, love him like I do though) :)

I think he meant a player that can do a job for us till the end of the season i.e. someone on loan at the level we are playing at now that can do a job for us in the run in and help us over the line, rather than Sharp himself or someone at Sharp's level.

The best news (so far), on the transfer front, is that Ryan Bertrand is going to stay with Saints beyond this season.

Hopefully Toby ends up the same.

McCarthy started rb for the youth as well. But now plays a lot at cb. The games I have seen him play he looks far better as a cb.

I know that both Saints and Bertrand want this to happen, but you write as if it's a done thing, DTLW. Heard anything more concrete lately..?
Basically done was what I was told a week or so ago. So wouldn't be surprising if it is all tied up now.

Mmm ... I might have realized that and being pulling his leg :)
