I assumed he meant it's maybe not the time to stick rigidly to rationality, but maybe take a high risk/high reward decision...

On your earlier post - really good read.

I actually think, though it might surprise you, that what you've said nearly everyone on here agrees with from the comments I've seen over the last couple of days. All the reasons for concern are bang on and I don't remember anyone saying this was anything but risky.

On the other hand, the one thing I think that you haven't covered which I believe is behind a lot of the support, is that this appointment looks organised, thorough and professional. It looks like it's been carefully thought out. It looks like it hasn't been Delia appointing her mate because she doesn't know what she's doing. And that, despite the risks, gives me a lot of comfort.

And anyway, given Adams experience and where we are in the league, I actually think the "high risk" is really only that we don't get promoted and we lose a few players, as it was under Adams. I can't see us getting relegated from here. So the risk at least hasn't been increased. Of course, we could have given ourselves a better chance of getting promoted with an experienced old hand, but that would probably have been more expensive, they might not have liked the system the board have introduced and we still might not get promoted anyway.

As for your comments on Adams - spot on. I don't see how anyone can say that a manager who ranks 10th in our all-time list for win percentages is an unmitigated failure. Yes, in context, he didn't match requirements. But he did an adequate job in difficult circumstances. As I discussed with Supers I think yesterday, I see no reason why a lower league club wouldn't want to take him on as manager given his record. So the only barrier will be whether he wants it, which I don't know.

If the 4 - 1 - 4 - 1 formation is established, could that be Johnson/Tettey with Jacob M, Howson, Vadis and Redmond in front of the 1 and Jerome up top? Hoolahan, O'Neil and Lafferty to switch into midfield accordingly...

All about context. Adams had a squad of players that he had punching well below their weight. His win percentage was bound to be high taking both the level of opposition and the standard of player at his disposal into account.

Was he an unmitigated disaster? No! We'd barely have won a game had that been the case.

Was he EVER the right man to be given the job in the summer? Absolutely not. And that was always the problem.

I don't blame him for taking the job or for thinking he could do well - I'd be the same in his position. It's like the dream job! But just like him, I wouldn't be up to the job. We need someone with a serious backbone, someone who can organise, motivate and get these talented players to play as a cohesive unit. Neil Adams was never going to be able to do any of that and that is why I'm relieved his tenure is at an end and hopefully we now have a better prospect in charge.

And I'm sorry, I'd still be stunned if any club ever takes him on as manager. He is NOT a football manager. If they do, I'll eat my pants! Hmm, on second thoughts...

And the irony to top it all is that if we beat Derby tomorrow I will be cheering your motley crew on against Bournemouth! <yikes> I want to see you get a good tonking but that wont help us at all! <doh>

Can I ask Ipswich fans why they care so much how we are doing in the league? If we were where you are it would be a no brainer that we'd be more interested in how Bournemouth are doing.

Things I care less about than how Ipswich are doing in the league:
    (1) what Robert Mugabe is eating for lunch
    (2) the latest Peruvian legislation on wall material filling
    (3) my sister's constant complaining about her job
    (4) JWM's pulling powers
    (5) that bloke off Pineapple Dance Studios
    (6) Speed Metal

    And that's about it.

Rob I don't care how you're doing in the league but tomorrow you happen to be playing our promotion rivals so it is of interest just for this game.

Rob tbh while Norwich were in the prem there was a good few of your fans more worried with how we were doing than your relegation rivals( maybe not yourself) but that's where the rivalry lays.

You're not a rival for promotion only mid-table but when you happen to be playing one of the top teams then of course it will be of interest!

One thing has occurred to me, if you take his surname, followed by his former club, does he have a job for Christine? ;)
