Is not wrong if I can give 5 more names that have turned him down! My issue here is it's all incredibly muddy are these foreign lads coming from our scouts, the committee, Rodgers.... What I do know is Allen borini and sturridge played for/with him so he knew them The other 20 odd signings I suppose we don't know but we do know in theory Rodgers wanted bony... From this league and Swansea and ended up taking balotelli as a compromise We know origi has been tracked by lfc longer than Rodgers been in charge..... So is it Rodgers, is it committee well let's both then say maybe we don't know But the list of guys choosing other destinations is long for some reason and honestly my opinion is having a big name would mean more would come
That's just it, we don't know so I see it as a pointless exercise getting all worked up about it and slagging everything LFC off (not you, but some just lose it!) It's really not all doom and gloom as a win Saturday will no doubt clarify, but even then it'll have to be 3 clear goals for any sort of credit to be given! The big names not coming ****s me off as much as anyone but it really is out of our control with the wages that are just handed out but other clubs in our league and around Europe. Chelsea will buy one of our targets and throw 40k a week on too just so we don't get them ffs! Frustrating, but a fact so we have to make our own stars for the time being. Plus, we do still try to get them, bless us
Well in the end our strategy has been rejected finally by arsenal so as long as we really do try buy a real player somewhere and do not but a couple off cheap villa players and a man city reserve CIA they are all out of contract ok That's the thing we don't know who's done what so this review supposedly is to sort it out and for me balotelli in particular is a sacking offense
We were never really in for Shaqiri - no bid was made, so Shaqiri didn;t turn us down. He's not a player we needed but he was a big-ish name and could have been a boost, especially at that price as well. It's a shame we bought Lallana instead. Milner and Delph are cheap targets but they won't be coming until the summer anyway so other than Origi and possibly a keeper, I don't know what to expect in January. It may be down to FFP or the owners don't want to give Rodgers any money as they may have a new manager lined up in the summer. Hopefully it's the latter because the current structure isn't working as Rodgers has no faith in the committee and even if players are 'imposed' on him, he'll end up alienating them like he has done with Sakho and Balotelli.
Garcia and Arbeloa I'll give you but Torres and Mascherano were both already world stars. They had both established themsleves as regular internationals at a very young age and had both become a captain too. Reina and Alonso weren't exactly unknowns and Babel was the hottest sort after youngster in Holland!
Reina, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez were established players with more potential. I class them as tier 2 players who have good experience already but weren't at a level where the biggest teams were serious enough for them. This is the level we should be targeting - when you spend £20m plus on a player, he needs to be a tier 2 player or an elite talent. Lallana and Lovren just shows you how poor Rodgers's eye is for talent. That was a massive waste of money.
IMO, we can credit or blame Brod for any signings we actually make but not necessarily credit or blame him for any signings we fail to make. They may seem strange but its simple really. Brod has the final say on any signings (lets call this A) but he has to work under FSG financial structure (B) too. Therefore, the players we do actually sign fit B so A applies. The players we don't sign may not have fitted in with B so A may not have been given a chance. I'm sure there will be some instances where B did apply but A said no too but we simply don't which deals this would apply to.
For once Jimmy, I'm in complete agreement with you The only bit I will add though is I like Lallana as a player, we just paid too much money.
Yep. I still remeber people being concerned when we bought him though, and asking what Rafa was doing. Turned out to be a good call, obviously.
Haha. I agree - I think he's a good squad player but nothing more. I just feel that he's overhyped because he's an Englishman who has a bit of technique. But a lot of hype is based on his work rate and a few Cruyff turns. A lot more style than substance. Rodgers simply needs to stay out of any transfer dealings and coach the players he's given without resorting to petty politics i.e. alienating players. The committee have signed some quality players, all are young and most are at a good price.
The moment Mascherano and Tevez rolled up at Upton Park, the West Ham team should have been built around them. Pardew sat on his arse claiming neither fitted into the West Ham team. That's right, two potential world class players were not good enough to get into a relegation threatened side!!! If either of the players lack fight then I could partially understand it but both constantly worked their socks off for the team, dug in and fought in every game and they both had the talent to go with it too
I've said it many times to you before, you have no way of knowing who wanted who but what we do know is Brod said yes to each and every player that's arrived during his reign.
