Butt was ****ing quality. Well underrated midfielder who was unfortunate that Keane and Scholes existed. Rafael is good too. Give you the rest. They were however, squad players.

What's your name, Brendan Rodgers <laugh>

You want to play that game?

    CL Titles
    Djimi Traore 1
    Igor Biscan 1
    Milan Baros 1

    Buffon 0
    Cannavaro 0

Ergo, Traore is a better defender than WC winner Canavaro <diva>

UIR is very passionate about Man U, why are people diacussing a liverpool v Man U debate with him? If you want to have an honest chat abiut Gerrard v Scholes then speak to the other guys on the board.

Gerrard was jack of all trades master of none. Scholes was master of controlling a game. He struggled with other things. It depends what you want as a player.

We had Alonso who was similar to Scholes in the way he dictated the pace of the game, not saying he's better whatsoever I may add. We lost Alonso and we have struggled ever since.

If we had Alonso and Scholes in our team we would lack cutting edge Gerrard brought to the game. And if Gerrard went to United then he would have numerous titles under his belt. Would we of won more with Scholes? I don't really know.

The last few pages have been utterly pointless <laugh>
Haters gonna hate, and trying to reason with them is a waste of time. If they haven't the good grace to recognise the qualities of an opponent then they're too stupid to bother with, and no amount of reason or common sense will change their position.

Don't think its hate on their part though saint, its more a kind of mass hallucintion caused by an old manager they had a few years back.

Helps when you take all the free kicks and all the penalties (granted he is great at penalties - not so hot on the free kicks) to boost your totals.

Also helps when you shoot from 30 yards all the time like fat frank did for us without thinking of playing it wide or the killer ball (this has toned down in the last few years since he exchanged his shooting boots for bananas)

I have to agree with the United fans. Scholes is a far better players than Gerrard. The only thing Gerrard has on scholes is Energy and tackling (maybe long range shooting). Everything else he is inferior on. Gerrard lacks discipline and a true footballing brain to be a truly great central midfielder. There isn't a when to run up, when to run back it was a do everything as fast as you can and as direct as you can. This is why Rafa understood this and put him behind Torres and the right wing which he excelled at.

Case in point, many pundits put the European Cup come back to Gerrard but actually it was the subbing of Kewell for Hamann that did the trick (and penalties). Likewise Stevie for England has never been anything but average.

Top scorer with 9 goals. Not bad for a liability whose legs have gone.

How many from open play? I know you still have to core the pens/free kicks, but I'd rather have a player in there creating chances from open play than a "designated kicker" to just do not a lot all game and step up to score a penalty.

This season, SG has only performed well in that role once Leicester went down to 10 men, and when a League 2 side tired late in the game.

Find it astonishing the amount of pundits who have their tongues up Stevie's arse.

I agree to with this to a certain extent but who will be our leader on the pitch and in the dressing room?

I haven't seen anyone leading at all this season, and that includes the skipper. I've seen Gerrard trotting to catch players which often leads to goals conceded and he has his head down.

It's time to develop new leaders - Sakho, Coutinho, Sterling, Hendo, Can. This team has a potential top class spine.

Well lots of arguments there about a spine, no been there done that players at all. Apparently Gerrard was all about the quiet word, in the dressing room though and not screaming on the pitch (Suarez autobiography)

In the dressing room, yeah I'm sure Stevie is a big influence.

Hopefully we do buy some proper leaders sooner rather than later.

Can't see that happening under Rodgers management, he's earmarked Hendo as Gerrard's replacement.

    Yeah but who??

I think its unfortunate we cant keep hold of Gerrard and use him with 20 mins left coming off the bench. Imagine our crowd, Gerrard warming up in a tight game and him coming off the sidelines, all nice and fresh against a tired defence. Why cant this happen!!??

Hendo can be captain but we can still bring in mentally strong players. Suarez was rarely captain but he was a leader in the attack.

Hoewdes from Shalke would be a brilliant option who can play CB which is what we're crying out for.

Lars Bender can add further steel to our midfielder.

There are plenty of young, strong, experienced leaders in the market - we just need to start signing them.
