The drivel being spouted over Gerard is nauseating. For me, he is the most over-rated player in the modern day. A good player, very good even but not a great player.

Anyone like to suggest other contenders for the most over-rated player still playing?

Gerrard is one of the best English players of his generation.
At his peak he was a freak of nature.
He was quick, strong, good in the air and could tackle, pass and score.
A few years ago he could have moved to any club in Europe but chose to be loyal to a very average Liverpool team.
Last season finished him and he's not the player he was.

One of the most over rated players for me is Leighton baines.

So out of all the over rated players you could have chosen you choose a player who is on the verge of breaking all kinds of goal scoring records?
I'll never agree that Rooney isn't world class. He could get in any side in Europe bar a couple imo.

After Thierry henry I think Gerrard is best ever premiership player, certainly the best British premiership player ever imo

I chose him because he is the most overrated in my opinion, Col.

Why is he overrated? He may not be the best player in every game but can you think of a more consistent player over the years?

Players with great skill who burn like a bright light but go out like a light just as quickly are more appealing than him?

Gerrard wasn't a patch on Roy Keane. Different type of player but look at the influence that Keane had on games week in week out. Now he was a real freak of nature, a driving force that dictated games.

Consistently good but not great. How about his performances for England?

I think players tend to get overrated on the strength of a handful of good performances at World Cups or Euros. I wonder whether this might now be the case for the likes of Vlaar.

Arguable but you don't make a bad shout. My point is, you will struggle to find many. I don't really rate players based on their England career because playing for England is almost as poisonous as playing for QPR!! But I rate Gerrard because he's had a long career of being a great player consistently for a top Premier League team. I don't see why anyone would dislike him, even if they don't rate him as a top, top player.

All I know is that I'd happily have players of the likes of Gerrard, Lampard or Rooney in our side right now.
