While I agree we have been below our usual standard lately, we still picked up 7 points from the last 4 games which is a very healthy return. How many times under Rodgers, ML and Monk (Spurs game a prime example) where we played well and got nothing at all? With the Xmas schedule jammed packed, I'd like to think that Monk sacrificed performances to ensure getting points on the board especially with the next three league games we have coming up and with Ki, Bony, Montero and Jonjo absent for those games. Our performances might be different to what we have been used to atm, but we cannot deny that they have been effective in picking up points over the Xmas period. That said, I'd like to think that when we return to the one game a week schedule, we will adapt back to our usual way of playing.
'Can't understand why some say we were appalling, not only is utter bollox but it is incorrect too. Just what are people expecting from us? play like Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal. Get real for fekk sake?' No, we expect to play like Swansea City not a bargain basement version.
Last Christmas / New Year we gained only 1 point from 4 games Villa 13th 0-0 draw, Everton 4th 1-2 loss, Chelsea 3rd 1-0 loss & Manu 8th 2-3 loss Combined opposition placing 28 (mean 7th) Our league place was 11th (4 below the mean) 3 of 4 teams below us at the times we played (Villa two places and 1 point below). Goals for 4 against 5 No game was lost by more than a single goal Our league place was 11th This year over the same period we gained 7 points Hull 15th 0-1 win, Villa 12th 1-0 win, Liverpool 9th & 4-1 QPR 16th 1-1 draw Combined opposition placing 42 (mean 13) Our league position is 9th (4 places above the mean) All teams below us at the times we played. Goals for 4 against 5 No game was won by more than single goal Aren't statistics useless
apart from liverpool game where Brendan had the measure of us our football has been what to expect from a club our size In fact we have been playing above ourselves and if our finishing was better by everyone and the diabolical decisions that have gone against us we could well be alongside the saints or possibly higher. So with everything going against us we are having a fantastic season being in 9th place. If we were battling relegation then fans would be right to moan about the football and monk ....
