OK, so it's good to get players in nice and early, but I'm thinking back and if I'm not mistaken some of our most influential players joined us very late in the close season, or even after the season started. Due to the nature of our finances, there is going to be a certain amount of patience required to get the right man in, for the right price, and on the right contract. People like Darius Henderson, Malky, and pretty much all of the loanees spring to mind.

I think the club's done okay to get a couple in already, but I don't we should be surprised if there's a bit of a wait until we get any more.

I hope I'm wrong, of course - there's not much else to talk about at the moment (apart from Cardiff, who are on course to finish 14th next year if they nick any more of our players and staff)!

    Welcome to the board <ok>

I can see us getting a couple more permanent signings in the next week ot two as most will want to be with a club for their pre-season training, while others will wait for the biggest offer. (I'd much prefer the first type of player rather than someone willing to auction off thier services)

As for loaness - they are generally late coming in, so don;t be surprised if there is no movement for a month or two!

I don't expect loanees to arrive until the Premier League has kicked off. But for a new player to bed in at a higher standard than he is used to, he needs at least few weeks of solid training and a few 90 minute matches under his belt (part games are okay if they're coming thick and fast). Troy Deeney didn't really get that, and look how long it took him to show his full worth. Jordon Mutch, Henri Lansbury and Tom Cleverley adapted quicker, but they're used to being under pressure to perform against top class opposition from minute one.

The majority of players that we sign will have backgrounds more like Deeney, and will really benefit from as close to a full pre-season as possible.

i can see us getting at least one more this week, then there may be a lull...in an ideal world...ah well...this isn't, is it..hopefully our current players will have a good pre-season and we won't need to stress too much before 1 September.

NNW I totally agree, pre season is a key time for fitness and bedding in and Deeney suffered from this last season when he joined just before the kick off.

I feel we need quite a few players of our own before they are joined by 2 or 3 (max) loanees. Norwich in particular suffered from too many loanees when they were relegated, and I don't think it did C****** any good last year.

Agreed, 1 or two new signings hopefully in the next 7-10 days would be ideal so they are getting a pre-season with us. Doubt we will see any loanees until August time, hoping SAF sends us a good'un and doesn't loan them all to the posh!

I don't think we should be looking to Manchester United and SAF for loanees. How many of the loanees we have had came from the Tartan Mafia effect. Now Malky Mackay has gone will these players follow him to Cardiff City or to Ferguson Junior at Peterborough or will we be lucky and get someone? Not the young Drinkwater again though.

We now have Wilson who will be well connected in Scottish circles and its his job to make and nurture these connections without having to worry about the on field business. Its a good model freeing up the manager to concentrate on the players and team once its in the door.

SD provides the names if he would like and RW looks closely into them! it works for many other clubs! Why not ours?

I think you make an excellent point about Deeney.

Come the start of the season he will have had last season to get used to his surroundings plus a full pre-season of training.

I fully anticipate and hope that he will be one of the players to 'kick on' and step up to the plate in the absence of DG. Not saying he will be a goal machine like DG, but just get a feeling that we haven't seen the best of him yet.

Still not sure of his best position though. I like his flexibility in that he can drop back into midfield, but I would still like to see him given a run of games as a centre forward, rather the sporadic outings of last season.

Totally agree he was brought in as a striker , so give him a run in the team as a striker ! If it doesnt work as you said he did some good work in midfield!

I think we will - Watford look after loanees and send them back better players (ok so Drinkwater was a hippo with no sense of direction). Maybe Cardiff might get 1st dibs but we should do OK.

I get the impression from Deeney on twitter that hes desperate to get going, give it 200%, who's to say he cant surpass Danny?

Says a lot and proves the point it'll be difficult for late intake to get to speed. With the premiership squad downsizing the cards are going to be with the clubs late window I suspect there will be more players than places, those who want to prove a point can do worse than come to us.

Yeah, let's hope so - but chances are whoever we get in will have had their pre-season at their previous or parent club. It won't be that they'll have a standing start.

But I believe we train harder than any other club, its always been that way since the Taylor years, so there will always be catchup.
