Shame we'll probably lose to Besiktas.

I really hope we do well this time, last time we really should've beaten Zenit but killed our chances with 3 moments of poor defending and Suarez' poor finishing in the first leg.

Correct, good times. Went onto beat Arsenal but then lost Chelsea in the semis with that epic game at Stamford Bridge. Wouldve faced Utd in the final as well :(

I agree and it's hard to truly judge a CB's worth without a decent DM or defence around them. Hence why I think Cahill's alright but if we were to swap him with Phil Jones, would we see much difference. I don't think so, except that Cahill would be getting rinsed instead in that United defence (but not for his gurning).

Ehhhhhh yeah!!!! Phil fn jones is a donkey who's mostly injured

Cahill is a bit of a donkey too but is never injured.... Cahill performance for England should tell you he's better than jagielka but not marvellous

    Wooooooooaaah!!
    I wouldnt go that far.
Have you ever seen Jones pull off a performance like Cahill did in the 2012 CL final?
Cahill CAN be excellent, he just very inconsistent, world beater one week, poo the next.

I'd take Cahill over Jones as a CB all day, Jones gets these rushes of blood to the head, and it's some head too <laugh>
Jones is more versatile though but he does stupid things regularly

Moruinho knows how to set up a team up defensively, he's one of the best at it. His back four are deep with the DM just ahead of them, to break them down you have to do it in the counter or to shoot quickly so they don't have time to set up, see the goal we scored against them and both of Newcastles goals as examples. You will never see a well worked team goal against Chelsea, it's all grab and smash.

Both your centre backs are massively aided by Matic. Without him you would be carved open like turkey.

Your fullbacks are also brilliant. This helps your centre backs immensely. They really are not that good. Just very well protected. Cahill is thr better one though. He is more consistent than Jones is.

Well I think you may be selling them a tad short.
But yeah Matic and the fullbacks DO help them out a great deal, would be foolish not to admit that

  16. Being versatile is one thing, being able to play the roles to a significant standard is another. Jones is a perfect example of 'Jack of all trades, master of none'

I think those two statements only go to support what I'm saying. He's a decent 22 year old CB, but all of his mistakes are being exposed as a combination of a poor defence around him and no DM. Stick Cahill in our team right now and you'd be saying exactly the same about him. If we're talking about This isn't me trying to prop up Jones, if we were talking about Smalling, I'd tell you he is bang average to **** but Jones is a decent player and will go on to be a very good CB.

You're right Sisu he is more versatile but I think he's been forced to be bcos of our defensive problems.

I find it hilarious that these mancs blindly go out no matter what turd of a player they have and defend to the nth degree

At least some fans have a small but of objective view about them on here but not one manc

FFs Phil jones has cost utd hugely every time he's laid up, just like smalling

    He's not that good....

If he's not that good then how has he cost them 'hugely' every time he's been laid up?
