No Mayuka in today's squad. Has Ronald finally reached a conclusion, or is he injured/ill?

Not with Martinez as manager. They are very possession orientated but a lot of it is sideways. Similar in style to Pochettino's Saints where they can dominate the game without really having many chances.

I think Koeman has seen the videos and seen that when Everton get the ball past the half way line their instruction is to get everyone supporting the attack and they are very very susceptible to the counter, more so than any other side in the Prem.

I agree. Their defence isn't great either.

We played really well but there were times in that first half where they were playing in front of our defence for ages and kept getting the ball back without ever really threatening.

Everton the club are a big club. Everton as a team aren't. They have some great players but the tactics they employ don't suit the players they have. Moyes tactics did suit the players he had (not much difference in the players.)

I will confess to not having seen him play even though I watched all the matches where he came on. How can a player be so anonymous?

I will add that not having Mane in the side today was a huge bright spot. I was starting to worry that he was going to end somebodys career and ruin our reputation as a neutral's fave side. Never seen an attacking player who was such a physical threat - in the worst possible way. Dude needed some benchtime till he finds his happy place again.

I agree. What's different to last season then, when the same manager had the same players threatening the top of the league?

Last season he played with wingers. Makes a lot of difference. He played to the team's strengths. This season he is trying to mould them into his favoured 4-2-3-1 which would be fine but not if you shoe-horn the best 11 players into it.

With wingers Baines and Coleman have more freedom and were really dangerous for them.
This season Baines and Coleman are anonymous and all their play is coming through the middle of the park.

It may also be partially due to the overhyping of Barkley and Martinez's belief in him. He is not the next Wayne Rooney.

Martinez and Rodgers have a very similar problem. That being they keep trying to change their teams back to their favourite Swansea formation. It was Pochettino's failing here. You have to adapt the formation to suit the players you have and not the other way round.

    1 question:
If Koeman had not made a single substitution after a 3-0 defeat, what would we be saying???

True about the subs. I've not seen much of them this year, which is why I asked and interesting point about the wingers. Has Mcgready not played much?

He played their last game I think.

I think a lot of the problem is this modern media hyping of managers like MP, Martinez ad their playing styles. While they are hyping them up they also make sure they do their best to suggest older managers like Moyes are out of date.

I think Moyes did a great job at Everton with what he had. I think he was a lamb to the slaughter at Man U after taking over a squad on it's last legs and given no backing.

Martinez has been hyped up like mad for years even when he took Wigan down. Then he took over Moyes Everton side with an emerging Barkley, Stones and then the loan of Lukaku and of course its going to be slightly better than the season before. He just played the same tactics though.

This season he is playing his own tactics and its going tits up and just like Rodgers he is chopping and changing tactics and formation week to week with no idea what will work.

There must be something in the Swansea water that breeds arrogance and delusions of grandeur. Gary Monk already has that 'air of authority' much like Martinez and Rodgers exude.

Its strange because its as if they are just trying to present a facade of 'years of experience' to look the part but with all 3 of them you can see that they actually mean it and it isn't just 'looking the part'. They believe their own hype. They're all trying to be Mourinhos and think they already know everything.

EDIT: To add to that its one reason why I didn't like Pochetino. The dismissive self belief of 'I am always right'. One thing with Adkins was that whilst he would put on that public face of all smiles and endless optimism you could tell that it was just a facade. Similarly Mourinho plays upto his public persona but he knows what his shortcomings are whereas the 4-2-3-1 'specialists' don't think they have any shortcomings or anything to learn.

How can Martinez say the difference was that we took our chances.

Ward prowse and our set piece is so much better.

I think he was looking for excuses and looked at the BBC stats................which suggest they had more shots, more attempts, more on target etc and that we scored from all 3 of our attempts on target.

The stats of course don't include the debatable foul that saw Pelle's shot ruled out nor the blatant penalty. Other than that not much between the sides ;)

Martinez' complaint about the corner being given instead of a penalty is hilarious. Talk about clutching at straws!
