Hello all I´m new to this site OK, I know that the inflation of prices in the current market is high but on what planet is Maynard worth 4.5 million!? Apparently that is how much we would have splash out for his services!? Bristol city have already rejected big offers from a couple of clubs but how much highly do they really rate him? I think he is a good striker and has got good ability but for 4.5 million we could do much better and I think it is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a player that has only scored 38 goals in 104 games for Bristol city...It´s not a bad return but for 4.5 million I would expect more. Anyway, I don´t even know if we are really interest in him but if we are then I hope we don´t end up forking out that much for him. Thoughts. Do you rate him that highly?
Just when you think the transfer market cannot become anymore obscene.......it does. Damn you Man City, this is your fault.
Although I agree that 4.5 million is alot, I hear nothing but City fans (live in Bristol) bang on about how good he is. And to be fair, he is. I'd happily take him.
4.5 Million is a lot for a player in his final year of his contract. I think it will be nearer 3 Million. The lad is a good player though had a good season 09-10, better than CMS and Sharp thats for sure. Lambert, Barnard, Guly, Connolly and Maynard is a fine strike force.
The price of a player can be high to indicate that his team don't want to sell him (a la AOC). It's not necessarily a real value. Are we interested or is this speculation?
How do you rate player? If as posted above Maynard has 38 goals in 104 games, then CMS at 99 in 212 looks good value. Some will quote Peterborough creating zillions of chances, but FairPlay to him, he scored 35 goals. Which team had the most shots last season? I'm sure it was us; if not we were second, so he could have scored that number with us. I'm not bemoaning CMS going elsewhere, just trying to show that different players can be valued in different ways. Afterall Lallana didn't get 20 last season, so he must be rubbish
We had the most shots on and off target last season. Lambert also had the most shots on and off target I believe. The difference for us last season was how improved our defence was..doesn't mean they didn't scare me sometimes!
Thanks for confirming Fran. This is my point about CMS. Lambert had more shots but less goals?? Shock horror ... Is he now a bad player? Of course not, neither is CMS.
If we did manage to sell Puncheon, added to what we appear to have offered for Sharp - would any of you be willing to pay the asking fee (supposedly £4.5M)?
He will end up with us now we have lost out on CMS. He will move up to Svens number 2 priority after Matt Mills.
I would say teams like Leicester are certainly inflating the market and as Andy King's Crown Jewels has stated Leicester a likely to be very interested in him and seem willing to spend whatever they can. Personally I would take Maynard over CMS as he is younger and more proven at this level. In some ways I would love it if we got Maynard, however I would not want us to be too rash and take too big a risk with him - although with Cortese this seems less likely than the Leicester board.
The CMS move to Brighton does prove that sometimes players don't go to the obvious team. As individuals, they look for different things in a team. Leicester and West Ham don't want and can't buy all available players.
SouthamptonFC......welcome to the Saints site. If you have any problems do not hesitate to contact KingslandSFC or myself and we will try and help. In answer to your question is Maynard worth £4.5? The answer will not be known until someone has paid that price for him and we see what he is capable of in the new team. People said much the same thing when we bought Lambert from Rovers. They complained that the price we were paying was far in excess of his true value. So would you agree with that statement now? What would it cost to buy Lambert from us today? In all honesty I too think that £4.5 million is a bit excessive but if that is the current valuation of talented players then so be it.
Good point, Beddy. What is Ricky worth? There are 2 values really..the market value for a 29-yr-old proven goalscorer with no Championship experience (1-2 million?) or the value to us (priceless, because we'd struggle to replace him.)
Once you take Tevez out of that team they are in big trouble I think, can't see them threatening the Champs League or top 4 again without him.
£4.5m? No chance! If Leicester are willing to pay that then let them. If he doesn't want to sign a new contract at Bristol before the window closes and they want to cash in before he leaves for peanuts in January or nothing in the summer, things would be more interesting.
