Torres is going to be offered around to premier league clubs for free according to BBC rumours

I think we should go in for a cheeky loan offer til the end of the season (That's if Milan cancel his loan). Could do with some back up until the summer and he isn't the worse player.

Not for me. Not a team player.Too disruptive.

Heard a rumour yesterday Ryan Bertrand is now house hunting in the southampton area as he is fully intending to sign for us :)

On the one hand this must be good news. However, remember summer 2013 when we were desperately searching the planet for a left back. We couldn't find one so we had to make do with Luke Shaw. That didn't turn out too bad.

I'm wondering about Targett. Are we missing an opportunity here by having Bertrand?

Yes but you want strong competition between players, there will always been injuries, suspensions and lost of form to give each player plenty of opportunity.

One paper called Torres toxic...a very strong term, but doesn't sound like one for us.

Torres was a very good footballer, don't know if he is a very good human being, but may be, he is in need of some TLC to reinvent his career, we had a good track record for this in the past so why not give it a bash? Not that I can see it happening, he would probably demand too much money to make it viable. The last thing we need is a Prima Donna disrupting the dressing room.

Of course. Although actually, we didn't last year. I guess we probably got lucky with injuries and suspensions etc but some people reckon Targett to be better than Shaw and he isn't getting the opportunities at the moment. Presumably he'll play against Sheffield.

Not having a go at Bertrand by the way who has been terrific for us.

One word: Osvaldo.

I think this is a reason why getting into the Europa League would be fantastic for us. Sure, it would mean more games but we'd be in a position to attract better players whilst also giving plenty of games to youngsters - something we have a great track record of doing. Garbutt from Everton, for example, is more than ready for the premierleague but is having to bide his time. Game time in europe will mean he is very well prepared when Baines is injured/leaves.

Europe would be massive for us in terms of developing the squad and getting the right players through the door.

I think they're very close in overall ability. Shaw has tremendous strength and speed, and is a very good defender indeed. His creative distribution is not great, in my opinion. On the other hand, Targett has very good strength and speed, and he's a good defender too. His creative distribution is also very good indeed. Both players are rarely caught out of a defensive position, despite being asked to play in the oppositions half for much of the time. So, as I say, they are very close, for me.

I think the pundits would say that Shaw is way ahead of Targett, but that's a pundit for you. Alternatively, when Shane Long was asked about Targett's performance in the League Cup against Arsenal [his first start] he said he looked as if he'd being playing there for years. And he did, he was excellent. All but one of his creative passes and crosses were accurate, and he was instrumental in several of the best attacking moves.

Bertrand is just that little bit more still. Personally, I think his consistent form puts him slightly better than both Targett and Shaw. But we know that Matt will get his chances with this club.
