We have got Michael Ball on trial, he was good back in his Everton days and i remember he did a decent job for Sven at Man City. I think he would be a decent signing as back up but if we did sign him surely that would mean the end of Bruno Berner

    Confirmed or rumour?

Good player, probably past his best but worth a year at this level. My guess, though, would be that he'd be cover for Masilela? Berner will be offski IMO.

Cool <ok> Didn't realise he was 31! Seems older, feels like he's been around for decades.....

He broke through at a young age. Its like Michael Owen, he has been around forever and he is only 30

Not played since 2009 ? If he cant beat Bruno in a 20 metre dash, dont take him. Perhaps he might be the half time entertainment - though I would prefer Serge and Tom to do something rather than Michael Ball.

    My thoughts exactly

He'll probably be worse for wear than Vassell and Yak!

"Ball has not been with a club since leaving Manchester City in July, 2009"

I'm sure he's still been professional enough to keep up his fitness levels in hope of finding a club and I'm sure Sven won't take him unless he's ready to play in the Championship. A good pre-season should help his fitness aswell. Agree that it almost certainly spells the end for Bruno though.

I think he was turned down by Wigan and Blackpool when he trialed for them recently, then again they were in the Premier League.

I'd prefer Mee as cover for left back but I suppose if this blokes on a free there'd be no harm in having him as well, can't see him playing a big part.

..think we're doing him a favour letting him train with the squad.... anyway he's got his west end / singing gigs to do and would interfere with saturday kick offs... ;-)

He would still be very good backup yes but he was very clear that he didn't want that. He wants first team football and that's fair enough at his age.

Here's a thought - Bristol City reckon they need defenders, maybe a £4m plus Bruno would secure Maynard? Fair play all round I'd say.

i would prefer bruno but at the same time we have to be realistic Sven obviously has something against berner and i believe he could be a ok signing on a pay as you play deal. thoughts?

I don't think its that he has something against Berner, but when he bought PVA in last year, you can see that he wants a much more attack minded fullback.. which is very dangerous imo.
