Saw Basel at the Lane (night when Bale got injured in April 2012 I think). Very good team and their away support was immense
To be fair, it will go down as a big game now if they win It looks only a matter of time before Basel go 2-0 up. I said when the draw was made that Basel weren't pushovers but come on, they lost their best player in Salah not long ago and shouldn't be battering you at home. If City and Arsenal get knocked out before the quarter finals too I think they should be banned from competing in the competition. We've only qualified once but we've done better than any of them have since.
Quite like Basel as a club, they do well for a team that sells most of its better players every season and still has a competitive team that plays good football. I would like to see us try to sign Schar, he's top quality, like we should have tried to sign shaqiri off them a couple of seasons ago when they beat us in the Europa league.
Markovic is an idiot - looks over his shoulder and then swipes his arm back. Minimal contact yes without a doubt but right in front of the ref and Markovic gave him the opportunity.
To be fair to the ref Markovic looks at the Basel player and throws out an arm...if he makes contact around the eyes with both the players running at pace the Basel player is going to feel it, and Markovic is going to see red. It looks soft but he should never give the ref the decision to make in the first place.
His next set piece was a corner which went straight out for a goalkick. Bottle job. Class Glad they're out, Basel would've been robbed if they hadn't gone through, much better team in both games.
Wonder if rodgers wishes he hadnt kept saying he was gonna piss the suarez money up the wall on over priced mediocre players like spurs did with the bale money...cos from where I'm watching he did it with bells on
They are lucky to get an EL place with 5 points. This and their PL form shows how much Liverpool punched above their weight last season with one world class player in their team, who brought the best out of Sturridge alongside him. Rodgers bought very badly in the summer. You need proven quality for the CL and upper reaches of the PL - not unproven foreigners or one season PL wonders - whose stock was overpriced because they punched above their weight themselves in a mid table team (Southampton). Liverpool should be signing star players, not maybes - leave that to West Ham and Newcastle, who are far better at it.
