I should be out on the piss with him on Friday. It should be an opportunity for a thorough update. Not bothering him now. he'll be preparing for the match <yikes>

I think its harsh to judge any of our signings too harshly up to now. For example nobody has looked too good defensively under Rodgers since he's been here bar Carragher, so I think its a bit early to be writing the likes of Lovren off at this point. Same with Balotelli, Markovic, Lallana etc up top, we need to see them in a team that has an idea what they are trying to achieve and with players that compliment them before we write them off as **** and want to see them off.

  6. Possibly but that wasn't what I was arguing with. Forget the committee for a second, do you think a manager only ever gets their number on target? It doesn't matter if there is one or a hundred people involved in the decision, the final say still lands with the manager and the plan will (or should) contain a first, second and third (maybe more) choice for each position you wish to include.

I'm sure most managers would love to sign C.Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar but reality doesn't work like that. A manager needs to access the squad and decide where to make improvement before looking at the players available to improve said position. You then get the best option you can for that role, if the option available either isn't as good as you'd like or doesn't improve on what is already in place, you don't sign them. Brod said yes to these signings, he must have thought they would improve the squad / team.

  7. Even if your theory about committee versus Brod is true, there is no way you'll ever convince me it was that way around. Balotelli simply isn't a Brod type of player, if he was then we'd have never had sold Carroll. Lacazette is what Brod looks for. Don't ask me to explain Lambert though <laugh>

look the thing about no 1 targets etc is impossible to know.

    1. how do we know that lavezzi was not apporached and he laughed in our face

    2. how do we know that swansea were apporached or not?

3 if we know neither... well then how do we know which as no1, which was no 2... etc etc.

finally... as much as we all would like to think that when an offer is made players fall over to join the reality is like i said above we could well have been turned down by all and sundry so target no 1 is a moot point given especially that we DO KNOW target no 1 was snachez who said f off.

Who knows what is a Rodgers type signing anymore?

We're all led to believe that he wants technical players who show 'courage' on the ball - yet, he signed Borini. Allen kinda fits the description but is hardly a world beater.

Lovren is far from the description, so is Lambert. Lallana is the only signing he has personally made that does fit his criteria.

He does not have an eye for talent - but that's not a criticism of the man. Most managers/first team coaches don't. That's why they have a network of scouts to do this for them, and a DoF to oversee the process.

We have a committee - which is no different to most major clubs. The only difference is that a) we gave it a name, and b) we're involving Brendan far too much.

This really winds me up - we only really pursued Sanchez once Suarez was pretty much off.

So that tells me that we weren't even in the market for a top player to supplement the attack.

Ok fair enough, I can live with that. But how can you go from Sanchez to Bony to Remy to Balotelli to Lambert. There was no strategy in place, and for that, I will criticise the committee along with Rodgers.

You seriously cannot compare Balotelli to Carroll!

But as you say, Mario is not a Rodgers type player. He was clearly a committee signing, hence why I'm saying that there are players who are imposed on the manager who will RELUCTANTLY agree. I think that's what you're getting at?

Lavezzi goes against our young player/resale value policy completely.

I think its more like that Rodgers would want Lavezzi and the panel say no.

That's absolute nonsense. One of the major attributes of a manager is his eye for a player, they have scouting networks to provide details of players that fit the brief of what the manager is looking for, but most clubs were the manager holds the final say, he himself would check them out personally before things progressed. All the best mangers in the history of the game could pick a player, and it's not always about just what they can bring to the team with their boots either, that makes them desirable to bring into the squad.

  14. Deadly seriously. I was the previous dozen times I said it too. Only difference is, Carroll put more effort in!

But, Brod must have wanted Balotelli at some point, he gave his approval!

Only read back so far but didnt BR sign Sakho as well? What makes you think he didnt want him?

  16. I'd day the ability to spot a player is not only the main priority but an absolute essential skill the manager must have. How the hell can they pick a team otherwise?

Actually, this makes sense since Brod picks his favourites and not the form players lol

Sakho, like Lovren, was signed on the logic that he has a reputation for being a leader.

Only problem with Sakho is he has a reputation for a being a leader in French and not English...

Exactly. The notion that a manager having the ability to look at a player and decide whether he's any bleeding good or not, isn't a pre-requisite, is pyar jarg
