BBC seems to back this up - looks like he chose brighton over leicester and west ham. He will be heavily overpriced and there is no guarantee he will do well in the championship - brighton could be completely ripped off
have to say this - we cant have been serious with a bid etc because surely he wouldnt choose brighton over us if we had bid accepted? (i know will annoy their supporters but think about the long term vision and the fact they have lost their best 2 players this summer)
Bit weird and strikes me the bloke and P'boro don't really know what they are doing or how to conduct business. Last week the P'boro chairman said that Brighton's offer was good, but not as big as Leicester's. Perhaps Brighton upped it, they are cash rich at the moment after selling all those season tickets for the new stadium. As I've said a number of times, still not sure that Mackail-Smith is more than a 1 season wonder. He could quickly turn into a headless chicken sort of player if he goes a few games without scoring.
I still think he'll be a good signing for them.... if he gets the service. Don't shoot me, but he's a little like a poor man's Kevin Keegan in terms of the hustle and bustle approach.
"poor man's Keegan" I will take that preposterous line and give you this one instead which I believe is nearer the mark... "poor man's Hassan Kachloul"
Well done for reading the stats. Now I suggest you watch his overall performance. He is NOT a natural finisher. He will miss about 3 opportunities before scoring every 1 of his goals. He only scored 27 goals due to Peterborough only attack. Plus, he has never been good above league one level.
A lot of people would argue that Austin was that until he left for the Championship and look what happened there...
I think if it goes through then it's a very good signing for Brighton. I know we made enquiries for him in January and decided against following it up. Not disappointed in the slightest that we didn't go for him but a decent player.
Don't rate him he failed to step up last time. Takes a lot of chances before he scores often due to bad defending/ goal keeper error. Like Austin and Paynter he will fail in the Championship as he did before. A poor Mans Brett Omerod.
I imagine Brighton were happy to throw cash at a big signing for their new stadium. I won't be crying over this one.
I have heard through the grapevine that Mr Austin has, allegedley, had some off field problems that may make him a very unattractive to any team. This maybe why he hasn't be playing for Burnley, and may need to clean his act up.
Undisclosed fee as per....though if it is the reported £3 million then i'm pleased we were out the race. Any player we sign (esp at these values) has to be better than Lambert or Barnard and CMS is not that. Maynard it is then
