Rooney must be considered a better number ten than Aguero in the same way Paul Konchesky must be considered a better LB then Lionel Messi. Its a ridiculous argument since its a position that Aguero never plays therefore none of us know if he would be any good there or not. Basically, the gist of the argument is Aguero is a better striker but Rooney is more versatile. Given a straight choice between the two, I can't see too many opting for the Englishman over the Argentinian
Depends on what you are missing. If you already have a couple of world class strikers, you might want Rooney but if you already have a good number 10, Aguero would be the choice.
That's a pretty facetious comment tbh Greez, expected better from you. We're not comparing players from completely different positions, just pointing out the differences in style between two attacking players. Besides which Messi probably would be a better LB - he has the ability to run with the ball, would offer a massive attacking thread which pinned the winger back, and has shown himself to be quite effective when pressing for the ball with Barca. By the same argument, Rooney hardly ever plays number nine any more either so it's impossible to know how he would perform given a full season to play there. As I said above, in 2011/12 which was the last season he played as number 9, he outscored Aguero and had a better goals per minute ratio. I'm sure plenty of people would opt for Aguero over Rooney. But that's more down to their style, individual perceptions, and the fact Rooney is a bit of a c**t, than any rational or factual analysis.
Rooney is allegedly more versatile. As I said below, I really think there are 2 positions he is very good in, 9 and 10. He's nowhere near as effective from a wide position. Aguero is amazing up top and I'm sure could do a pretty good job at 10 or wide if asked. In fact he sometimes played behind the striker at A.M, playing off Forlan. Top class players are all probably more versatile than we realise but tend to get played in the same or similar positions. But yeah all things being even, whose really genuinely going to pick Rooney over Aguero on recent form (other than UIR?? )
I was expecting that I don't think its impossible to know how Rooney would perform at number nine since he has played there before. In fact he had his best season for you in that role and got his best ever return that year too. Obviously, I was taking the piss a little with my comment too, my point was it depends what you want from the player. What I will add is I think Aguero is a world class number nine. Although very good, I wouldn't say Rooney is world class in any position. His advantage is being very good in more than one position whereas Aguero is a one position man IMO.
At a guess, managers. Aguero is brilliant but hes arguable the least reliable player in football. Not in ability terms but the fact he simply wont be on the pitch. Most managers given the choice would take that into consideration and i suspect a big number would take rooney. Heres an idea. You tell me what a side would lose by having rooney over aguero.
People keep saying hes not world class but the stats, facts, perfomances amd figure's tell a very different story. They rival any player bar the two extremes. As above. I think the football world holds rooney im a much higher regard than your average jo fan. Hes one of the worlds best as far as football is concerned and rightly so.
Aguero is as clinical as they come so obviously the answer would be goals. Sure, Rooney can score too but given the same situations all season, Aguero would get more. Agreed he is the best player currently in the PL
This is rooney. Last season. Played 29 scored 17 assisted 10. 27/29 2012/13. Played 27 scored 12 assisted 10. 22/27 2011/12. Played 34 scored 27 assisted 4. 31/34 2010/11. Played 28 scored 11 assisted 11. 22/28 3 seasons as a number ten and one as a number 9. His contribution remains consistently high. If you then add in all other games including europe, cups and England it becomes a goal or assist every game. How the **** is that not the bery definition of world class. He doesn't do this for some small side that makes him look better, hes had some top class players around him and stood out about them. On one of those seasons he was apparently in the worst form of his life. He out performed almost every football in english football in that season.
No. I always include assists for midfielder as they domt have the same goal scorimg opportunities that strikers do. Helps give a fairer comparison. One season above is with rooney as a number 9 though so can remove the assists if you like. It's still bloody good.
So assists only count for midfielders? As I said, when the argument suits. You shrugged Suarez's assists off last year when you were claiming he was in a purple patch but now it suits for the Rooney argument they are suddenly included and/or you are counting Wayne as a midfielder to try and justify such hypocrisy Which I never denied he's a good player, in fact I clearly said "His advantage is being very good in more than one position".
As i said, for midfielder its fair as they do not have the same opportunities to score. Its often the case a midfielder creates the goal. As for suarez, who cares? Hes ****
