It's a bit like winning the X Factor though - a bit naff and not really proof that you're any good. Keane is a good player, mind you. Just not sure he had much competition.
My son played with both Matthew Etherington and Simon Davies in the youth team at Peterborough and in those days, Davies was streets ahead of Etherington in all aspects of his game. There were unsubstantiated rumours that Etherington only got his chance because Barry Fry was "looking after" Etheringtons mother. Whatever, both players went on to have decent careers in the game and on his day, Etherington was a decent enough footballer for us.
It makes a change for someone to come to Spurs from QPR, it's usually the other way round, but our new Director of football administration will be the current QPR finance director, Rebecca Caplehorn. She replaces Darren Eales who is off to work in the States.
A lot of the work is being what used to be called a Personnel Officer for all the playing staff. The role also includes some contract negotiation work and also the organisation of all away trips, travel and hotel arrangements etc. Darren Eales spends pretty much 70% of his time at the stadium and the rest at the training ground.
DeAndre Yedlin was also named US Soccer's Young Athlete of the Year. Have to like the symmetry to that - not least to resist the urge to take the piss out of MLS...
Free-kick practice: The usual suspects: Eriksen, Lamela, Kane and... er, Pochettino?
I don't know why Eriksen just doesn't hit them like his free-kicks. Aim at the edge of the six-yard box and whip them in at pace and with curl.
No doubt Davies was the better player at Spurs(when fit) but Etherington looked a decent player and, given our total lack of left wingers for a long while after, I think it was a mistake selling him.
Ugh, can't hear anything above the pub karaoke singer serenading the entire high street (badly), which is giving me a splitting headache please log in to view this image
Owen Coyle has taken over at Houston Dynamo on a 3 year contract. Coyle was flavour of the month at one time with some of our fans who thought he might be a good choice to be our manager. Must say, I am a bit surprised he hasn't been able to get a job in either England or Scotland.
s I sat here reading your comments,I began to think what was going through us old timers minds regarding the old Spurs. 1. What the hell has happened to us? 2.What the hell WILL happen to us? 3.Will we ever be able to enjoy our football team again on a regular basis? To be honest, the only time I've enjoyed watching Spurs over the last decade and further is under Harry.Shame the England thing screwed it all up! Surely there is someone out there in the Football League, doesn't have to be brilliant, who can kick a few butts to get our team on an even keel.A mid fielder would be helpful.Helpful?I'd say a prayer to him at church on Sunday...and Monday....and...
