He's not setting up to suit Mario. He's assuming that Mario is a target man who can play by himself - Mario has never played that role and always work with another striker, in a supporting role.

But I do agree that he has changed this style to play a target man - he wanted to sign Bony this summer which would imply the change in style, combined with playing with 1 striker for most of the season. Plus with all the long balls and crosses we've been doing as well.

RHC: Do you know if we're thinking of looking at Benteke again in January? Not sure what I'd think of that tbh, and another injury-prone striker maybe isn't what we need, but he's got to be a better option than Mario.

  6. When we were linked in the summer I'd have been very happy but that was more because the Balotelli, Bony and Eto'o rumours were flying about <laugh>

Not spoken to him since he said we weren't getting any money in January.

Oh god not Benteke. Another flash in the pan, and a 'decent' player. Nothing more.

Did your mate offer insight as to why we splurged £20million on a player called markovich who rarely even gets to warm the bench? It's dealings like that which piss me off more than our performances

Benteke, Flanno, Enrique... I'm starting to doubt your ability to spot a good player <yikes>

If it was a choice between Bony and Benteke then Bony wins for me, hands down.

Benteke is younger with far more potential but does have some injury problems.

Bony is a safer option and maybe 5 mil less.

Reckon could get benteke for 25m and bony for about 20m

  15. Straight choice between Benteke and Bony I'd opt for Benteke but I'd prefer to get someone else completely if truth be told.

Bony will be good in January for you guys, especially when he leaves for ACON duty. Why is this just not held at the summer as with the euro's/WC!!

Wasn't necessarily saying I wanted Benteke, in fact I don't really, but if he puts some form together in December I could see us looking at him more closely should there be some money from somewhere.

Depends on how we want to play.

If we want a proper target man/lone striker - than Bony is probably the best player.

If we want someone to partner with Sturridge, then Mario is the best player.

It's all about styles and God only knows why Rodgers wants to completely change the style. We went from one of the most lethal and quickest attacks to Gerrard and Lambert.

And I'm with Gez on this - I don't want us to sign a target man striker. I want us to buy a player with real energy, pace, intelligence, movement. So many out there instead of targeting mid table PL players.
