Astrohashtagmelt is already pointing the finger of blame at anyone other than Balotelli.

I'm more interested in Donga's view on this.

I mean, all things considered it is EXACTLY the same as rule 909.2.3.v3 (could be the correct rule but might not be) so he should get an eight month to life ban, or more preferably shot at dawn, like he said Ferdinand should have for re-tweeting the words choc ice.

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has apologised for a post on social media which appeared to contain anti-Semitic and racist references.

Balotelli, 24, quickly deleted the post from his Instagram page of Nintendo computer game character Super Mario.

The Italian had tweeted to deny the text of the post was offensive before his apology.

The Football Association is to investigate the post, while Liverpool say they will speak to Balotelli.

The picture posted by the Italian striker had an image of 'Super Mario' with the heading 'Dont be a racist!!'.

The text read: 'Be like Mario, he's an Italian plumber, created by Japanese people, who speaks English and looks like a Mexican'.

It finished with the lines: 'he jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a Jew'.

Responding to criticism on Twitter, Balotelli then tweeted: "My Mom is Jewish so all of u shut up please."

He also described reposting the image as "my unlucky moment".

However, he later wrote: "I apologize if I've offended anyone.

"The post was meant to be anti-racist with humour. I now understand that out of context it may have the opposite effect."

A Liverpool spokesman told BBC Sport: "We are aware of the posting which has since been promptly deleted by the player.

"We will be speaking to the player about the issue."

Former FA executive and current chief executive of the Jewish Leadership Council Simon Johnson said Balotelli should face action.

"We abhor all forms of racism, wherever it is found," Johnson told the Daily Telegraph.

"We call upon the FA to investigate this offensive social media post and to take action if appropriate if we are to succeed in kicking racism out of football."

Under the FA's social media guidelines, the minimum ban for race-related breaches of rules is five games.

In September, Merseyside Police investigated racist remarks made to Balotelli on Twitter after he posted a message during Manchester United's 5-3 defeat against Leicester City.

He wasn't being racist just really stupid, no surprises there though.

I don't think anyone would consider him a racist. He's just very, very thick. Or he's a genius and he fancied Christmas in Italy.

Ah, he's going for the Suarez Defence.

That worked out so well last time...

I'm certainly not defending him and I didn't defend Suarez, I just think he was stupid other than racist but at the end of the day he posted what he posted and has to accept any punishment coming his way.

I'll be astonished if he gets anything more than a slap on the wrist although rumour has it there is a petition to get him a 5 game ban. It's on a website called Red And White Kop.

Still awaiting the defence of Mario by that clown astroturfnaut. Should be good for a laugh when he submits his thoughts. Then we can debate who is the densest. Mario or Astrogob.

The reality of his comments are not really racist, and are slightly amusing. To be offended by them is pathetic, as the wording is hardly offensive, but the PC brigade have to get up in arms about it.

But Mario must be totally brainless to post them, any fool knows that the PC brigade would be out in force preaching fire and brimstone

Too much time on his hands....

Only him could have turned such a "joke" as he meant it into something controversial.
