With Bony likely to be at African Nations Cup and most reports suggesting Michu will not be back with us we will probably need another striker in January. Latest rumours suggest we, along with Everton, are considering Joel Campbell on loan from Arsenal. Our scouts are reportedly looking at Nigerian striker Moussa Maadou who plays for Maritimo in the Portuguese Premier League and has scored 8 goals, in 12 games. May be willing to accept £3 million for him.
With Man City hot on the trail of Bony and Arsenal weighing up a bid for Gomis , be a great time to make 30 million .My theory is we have 9 games till the window closes , not to hard to imagine getting 14 points from the teams we play in those 9 games. That would give us 33 points when the window shuts with 16 games to play. If we cant get 7 points from 16 games to reach 40 points , it would be a miracle .That 16 game shedule would give Emnes and a new ""Rebel Without a clause"" cheaper , unhappy striker from elsewhere plenty of time and minutes to gel and prepare for the next season .Then spend a bit of money for a ""Bony"" Type player in the summer. Its a good plan, which sees Bony and Gomis move onto big clubs , enshrined in European football .
It's a bad plan. "Bony" type players are very few and far between. When you "luck" on to a "Bony" type player .... Jason Scotland, Bony, Suarez .... who are absolutely superior at their level, you don't let them go. Money can never replace such players, because ordinarily they don't exist on the market. To replace "Bony" types, you end up paying a lot of money for the "Ballotelli" types who promise a lot but deliver very little of value. We should have learned a lesson with Scotland. 'Pool are learning a lesson with Suarez. I hope we don't need a refresher course with Bony.
If Man City come calling , Bony is gone .Gomis just needs his 7 Million "" Get out of Swansea"" card met by Arsenal and he too will be gone yankee. This isnt Rogers or Spurs wheeling and dealing for Bony , Its Man City .When I say a "" Bony type"" Player , I mean 10 to 15 Million ,attributes listed on resume , not just a Bony clone.
I feel privileged after watching the Swans for so many years to have a striker and indeed an all round player such as Bony in our team. In the real world if he receives an attractive enough offer to go to a team where he has a chance of winning major trophies of course he will go and who could blame him. I do not see Gomis leaving in January but still think we need a striker such as mentioned when I started this thread whilst Bony is away in January and also perhaps in the longer term. We should not be complacent about reaching the 40 point mark as a run of bad results would soon see us slipping down the table. Incidentally how long is the African Cup of Nations on for in January?
We all thought Scotland would be hard to replace and we did, the same with michu, we did and we can do it if bony leaves. Monk has a few cards up his sleeve you can bet on that, Players come and players go so im not a bit worried what happens tbh.
Scotland's immediate replacements: Beattie, Kuqi, Pintado ... it took us until the arrival of Sinclair to get a replacement. Suarez immediate replacements: Lambert .... it'll take them "forever" to get a replacement .... by "forever" I mean longer than Rogers' has at the club.
Roofjack, I disagree with almost everything you said there. Bony is critical for us, we must hold onto him. When Scotland left we didn't cope at all. If it hadn't been for Sousa's defensive discipline we'd have crashed and burned. Any talk of "coping without Bony" is really playing with fire.
no player is bigger than the club and should we lose bony then someone else will take his place, we have progressed even when we lost valuable players and we will do the same when we finally lose bony. Its not a problem.
That's 'cos Huw wouldn't give money to Sousa and Roberto had taken 'the heart out of the club' including, as I recall, our scouting team's little black book. We even got Trundle back!!!!! WOuldn't have missed Gorka for the world - just THAT fair but strong challenge on Savage was worth the ST fee.
The plan has nothing to do with "" getting rid"" of Bony and or Gomis , they will probably go without being sent .The plan is how to advantage our ""Lemonade"" problem that will be probably dealt us come the transfer window.Bony cost us 16 million in transfer fees and wages , get 23 million from the bottonless pit which is Man City coffers and thats a quick 7 Million above and beyond everything he cost us .Gomis cost will have cost us 1.5 million in wages and we'lll get 7 Million for him so theres another 5.5 million easy money .I think both players will go , all Im saying is lets work with what we are dealt with , which to me is both pressing to leave come January .
Can't argue with that. I have got to like Bony as a character though. And, getting up to speed in a new team could take time. I'd prefer to gat both scoring until the end of the season and cash in then.
Cool plan but for one very important item .... the mystery person who we will be able to acquire for cash, ahead of every other "top" club, that will perform as good as or better than Bony. And again, cash in the bank is not worth **** if you have a "Beattie / Balotelli" type on the field in replacement.
As a realist then i expect bony to go maybe not in January but at the end of the season and im sure that monk knows this and will already be pencilling his replacement and he will also know he will have a tidy sum to buy a good replacement. I have come to accept that the striker will cost more than any other player and his wages will reflect the cost but i dont want us going overboard with our wage policy with the rest of the squad. Im sure jinx will make sure we are sensible and only pay what we can realistic afford and not follow others who spend more than they earn and get themselves into trouble in future dealings...
Back to the OP title. Before the end of last season (and Pre-season for Ben) and before the Spanish clear out fans had identified the following:- Needed RB & CDM as players to support and take over from Leon & Angel + 1 hard B. alongside Leon; replacement for Ben Wanted Wing competition for Routs, Pablo, Lamah and Dyer. - Montero and possibly Barrow fit the wing competition - Job done We also sold Chico and bought similar. Lost Ben without replacing, didn't renew JdG's loan and got Siggy instead + Ki has come back and surprised all but his most fervent supporters. So IMO we are left with much the same needs as we had RB & CDM as players to support and take over from Leon & Angel + 1 hard B. alongside Leon; replacement for Ben. (Jazz IMO is more than capable of doing well at this level and would continue with him as understudy to Rangel.) The two Scots lads haven't shown any indication that they are up to Prem standard and it was alway clear Donnelley was also out of his depth
Joel Campbell – Everton, Swansea or West Brom? 22-year-old forward Joel Campbell impressed plenty of people at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However at Arsenal he is considered surplus to requirements and according to The Times, Campbell could be set for a January transfer. Campbell began his career in his native Chile with Deportivo Saprissa, he moved on loan to Puntarenas before Arsenal purchased him in August 2011. Campbell has since spent time out on loan away from North-London, playing for FC Lorient in France, Real Betis in Spain and Olympiacos last season in Greece. Joel Campbell has been important everywhere he went and at only 22 has already earned 38 caps for Costa Rica, scoring 10 times. Campbell has appeared twice for Arsenal this campaign but is thought to be desperate to make his name in the Premier League meaning Everton, Swansea City and West Brom have all thrown their hat into the ring for a January buy. Arsene Wenger is also believed to be tempted to sell on Arsenal’s German forward Lukas Podolski in January after he has made it clear to Wenger and the media he is not happy sitting on the bench being unused. It is understood any money made from these sales will be reinvested to sort out the midfield problems at the Emirates Stadium.
Premier League Trio Including Arsenal And Liverpool Told To Pay ‘Astronomical’ Fee To Land Striker Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have been told that it would cost an ‘astronomical fee’ to land Swansea striker Wilfried Bony. The 25-year-old Ivorian signed a new four-year deal recently denting clubs hopes of signing the forward, however, according to the Daily Express, Swans boss Gary Monk has stated that the player will be staying put unless they receive an ‘astronomical fee’. Bony has been in a rich vein of form recently, netting six times in the Premier League so far. "It's not a concern for me," Monk said when asked about Bony's future. "I'm not focused on that at all. I've mentioned it many times, and when he signed his new contract, that this [speculation] would still be the case. "It's not my focus. He's our player, a Swansea City player, and I have said many times before in football money does dictate things, but it would take an astronomical, astronomical fee for him to ever go anywhere. "We're not a selling club. We don't need to sell. We are very much committed with our players, they are committed to us and that's how we move on." Bony joined Swansea in a club-record £12m move from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013 and due to his solid performances has attracted some of the top clubs in England as well as abroad. Liverpool have struggled to replace Luis Suarez, with Mario Balotelli failing to make a sufficient impact, so may be looking to add the Ivorian to their firepower. While Arsenal and Manchester City are not short of attacking options they may be looking to the player to replace on of their stars, especially at Arsenal where the future of World Cup winner Lukas Podolski looks in doubt.
