Could possibly get a game soon, and maybe give Brown a rest. Should Poyet just stick with Brown, or take the chance? Sebastian Coates could be handed a baptism of fire as Sunderland prepare for a daunting triple-header against the Premier League elite. The Black Cats face runaway leaders Chelsea at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, before entertaining reigning champions Manchester City in midweek and then travelling to Anfield to take on Liverpool. And head coach Gus Poyet has admitted there is a question mark over whether veteran centre-back Wes Brown can play three such demanding games in just eight days.
Brown is fast becoming the go to man for glaring errors. An injury plagued career has finally caught up with Wes and he should call time on his fantastic career now. Vergini the Choice for me as I would never promote an on loan player over one of our own. We've seen too many times the loan system come back and bite us.
Agree with this, Brown's once calmness on the ball now means he dawdles and ****s up. He's been instrumental to us while he's played but I think the end is near now. I hope he retires at the end of the season and we get a long term replacement.
We are expected to lose so not bothered whether we give Coates his chance or play the experienced Brown.
Brown has never looked the part with the ball at his feet, very much like Catts he is a ball winner, but is easily caught in possetion and JOS is too slow to cover either of them when it is required. We have no quick defenders, hence the need for more cover. It amazes me how we have such a good defensive record considering, it speaks volumes for the character and determination in the side, long may it continue.
From what I've seen of Coates I wouldn't play him if we were even playing Sunderland ladies he is crap
I don't trust Vergini at centre half. Too error prone Only seen Coates play 45 mins in the cup against Stoke, so haven't formed an opinion on him yet
Nice rounded opinion of him mitch - you've obviously seen him play 50+ times insted of the 45 minutes he's had for us... I don't know whether I rate him or not - haven't seen enough to form a rounded opinion. I think experience is key against Chelsea. Costa is such a good player - I'd be happy (well as happy as you can be) with a decent performance and a narrow loss TBH as they are superb. But we are at home and it's normally a good atmosphere for the Saturday evening games - I am an eternal optimist - but can't see us beating Chelsea!! You never know - we might do a "Phillips/Quinn" demolition job from 1999!!
For this game I think we should go with experience and stick with Brown and O' Shea. There's plenty of games coming up and Coates will probably get his chance somewhere there. Haven't seen enough of Coates to form an opinion to be honest.
I would also go for this, but play two DM's in front of them, Catts and Briddo, trying to frustrate them is the only way. Backs to the wall and ht them on the break. Stiart young Watmore up front and keep Fletch on the bench for this one.
