I remember DR (I think), when we were discussing centre halves etc. for United asking why we didn't go in for Lovren.

My answer was because he's bang average and not good enough.

What can I say?

That DR guy is rarely right. Wouldn't surprise me if DR, Skylarker and Gerrez turned out to be the same person. They're all equally certain that they're supremely insightful but are actually borderline clueless.

I did wonder in the summer why BR was signing half a squad that finished 6 places below them and conceded more or less the same number of goals.

They don't learn. The last time Liverpool had a cash injection (from Torres) they went a blew it on mid table premier league players like Downing and Carroll and look how that worked out.

If you want to win the league buy quality not quantity.

However I'm still surprised how quickly they've fallen. They weren't this bad when Suarez was banned so it can't all be him.

It is hilarious when you realise they paid more for Carroll than we did for Costa and Fabregas <laugh>

To be fair to him, it seemed like most big name players weren't looking twice at Liverpool during the summer. Sanchez turned them down for Arsenal and Pedro, Carvalho, Konoplyanka and Shaqiri all looked to have the chance to move to Anfield but none forced the issue.

Liverpool have spent far too long outside the European elite. They don't have the money City or Chelsea had to attract the big names when they were still relatively unregarded clubs on the European stage, and so they don't really have a choice other than to try and pick good players from less high profile clubs, or hope to get a decent unwanted player from the big clubs.

Unfortunately they've managed to pick a bunch of bang average players from less high profile clubs instead...

Ooooh, someone's opening himself up for a Torres and Suarez comparison <whistle>

LOL Torres was a proven PL goal scorer. How was anyone to guess he would sign for us and turn utter dogshit.
Even though it was a ridiculous sum of money, you can at least see what they were paying for (or what they thought they were paying for).
Carroll had had half a season of PL experience and had scored a handful of goals......his price was ******ed

Maybe they bought the wrong Southampton players.....<whistle>

I'm sure they'll be in for the rest come January.....

Torres was an FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League winner during his time with us....what did Suarez win with Pool???.....<whistle>

Ergo Torres must be better...!! <laugh>

I agree 100%.

And whilst we're on the subject of more trophies meaning a player is better, please do me a comparison of the trophies won by Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard <ok>

luvgonzo does not like this thread! Bunch of batards!

Long ways to go yet Gonz.

Have Pool even played United yet?
Plenty of time for you to finish above United.
The Mighty blues may be too far ahead tho :p
