Wilf today signs 1 yr contract extension. .brilliant news, he's tied to us until June 2018, at the very least his signature must mean the dreaded buy out clause has gone

After not being able to get a ""Biggish"" club to get Bony European football last summer at a 19 million buy out clause , he will have the same , if not a lower one, attached to this one imo.Could be a trade off of a longer contract for the club and a smaller buy out for Bony ..

thought the idea was to remove the buyout clause altogether so we're more in control of fee

It was reported that buy-out clause was removed. That suggests to me that he'll be gone if an offer of around £12 million comes in. We all know that these contracts don't mean that players want to stay or will stay. Seen it all before. Extend contract, big talk about player being happy, blah, blah, blah, then player gone. Not saying it's the case with Bony, but just saying that clubs trot out the same tired lines every time.

So we are happy to take a loss on our our best player, who is one of the top average goalscorers per game in PL. Maybe you are right, I see it more that we are now able to tell people to 'Do one' unless they come up with a realistic offer.

If Bony couldnt get a big club to bite at s 19 Million buy out clause after him having a great season , he wont want big clubs to have less access to him by a buy out clause after a less that great start this season.Longer contract makes sense for the club ,a bit lower buy out clause for Bony might be what that ""Extention"" cost the club .

Anyone know how many minutes, if any, Bony played in mid-week? Sounds like a crazy game.....riot police involved with pitch-invading fans at the end and accusations of match-fixing as the final minutes descended into farce as players just passed it amongst themselves with no pressure as a 0-0 draw sent both The Ivorians and Cameroon through.
Now they are definitely qualified, it gives us as a club a decision to make I guess. I can't see us stopping Bony from going to Equitorial Guinea to be honest, maybe a chance for Gomis to really shine.

If the buy out clause has been removed then that puts the club in the driver's seat. The club does not have to release him unless the club wants to sell and the buyer meets our price.

That's true in theory but almost never true in practice. If a player wants to leave and another club has made a reasonable offer, then he usually goes. It's rare for a club to just say no, mainly because there's no point keeping a player that wants to leave. No way of knowing until he's actually sold, so it's a case of wait and see.
