Perhaps females in Liverpool are more likely to be able to read and write and fill out forms (it would be mean to mention benefit forms, so I won't :)).

Ho ho. Accepted as a quip, but you raise a serious point about sample. What do middle aged Southern Guardian readers do all day? I stick to my point as above, or to be more succinct; it's a load of ****e!

Or you could read my post which explains the results. The results are not ****e but they do need explanation:)

Not wishing to be too esoteric at this time of night, and the exclamation should have told you that my tongue was in my cheek when I wrote this, but "needing explanation" needs to include arguments about the validity and reliability of data. When explaining human behaviour, not including qualitative evidence, based on real experience is, in my view, a serious omission. With due respect, Channon (and I do genuinely respect your views) your post does not explain the results, simply offer an explanation. There is a difference.

I like my cat but other peoples cats are no better than rats and mice in my eyes, i'm not currently an Alfa owner but I have had 7 or 8 over the years, don't read a paper, don't do bird watching and am not 50 yet so I guess I don't really fit the profile.
One question I still can't really answer is the class thing - what defines someone as working or middle class these days as I don't know what the parameters are?

These things can be interesting if all you want is a biased snapshot result without actually delving into the detail, but they do tend to be prone to corruption of the data due to people being generally mischievous.

One other thing I don't really get is people who keep fish and describe them as pets! Fish are food, not friends, to misquote the shark from finding Nemo

Used to keep fish, but gave them up as they are so much trouble when you move. But I still love them and visit aquaria when I can....have put my foot down and have insisted on visiting the one in Palma when we go to Majorca next year. Such beautiful creatures and so soothing to watch. However, I do agree....fish fail the love test.

A profile published revealing what an average Saints fan is like, apparently we are 60 year old male , middle class, Guardian readers who like cats. :) I remember filling out this form. Portsmouth were similar but preferred fish as pets.

I am not 40 yet, working class, Read the Telegraph and hate cats (I have a greyhound.)

Male, approaching 60... that's near the target. Hate cats and do not like the Guardian. OMG!! Love tropical fish; am I a closet Skate... phoning the shrink right now...

I told my Mum and Dad that they were middle class when they working as teacher and civil servant (retired now)

My Mum rapidly retorted 'We are not middle class we are working class' to which I looked puzzled and she replied 'We are working class..........we work'.

She gets very puzzled by the more recent movements in what is termed middle class where certain professions or maybe earnings are now classed as middle class.

That's because your parents recognise their 'roots', they understand and respect your background, because they have worked to get where they are. Respect to your parents.

Sorry, rest of message got missed off... 'respect.. is deserved by your own individual efforts, irrespective of your backgound'.

What then is the profile for Arsenal and Chelsea fans these days on any given matchday? Tourists from all parts of the world?? The same could apply to Liverpool during Benitez's time there as you would see hordes of people going to the match from the airport draped in Catalan, Basque and Spanish flags. And Manchester United - hordes of Irish!!!!!
