I've had an after work beer which might explain it, but this really tickled me

Best of luck to him. You see it a lot in business and in life when someone takes on a large project and once it's complete they get an itch to find the next big project. Sounds like he has been working hard to get that department put together, create these wonderful systems and concepts, but now its built the day to day job is not floating his boat.

I hope for his sake that Spurs is not as bad as it appears on the outside and if a man like Baldini remains, will he give Mitchell the same kind of freedom he obviously enjoyed at Southampton.

From our point of view we will have a team of people who would have learned from his knowledge and will no doubt be able to carry on where he left off.

So, a very few months ago we lost our first team coach and five of our best first team players including our captain, and our talisman goal-scorer.

You will excuse me if this hardly features on my radar:) good luck to him, but I can't see this hurting us.

Indeed. Also, up until the media started noting Saints excellent recruitment policy, neither we, nor I doubt Spurs' Daniel Levy, had given any of it much thought. As usual, the Spuds chairman makes a knee jerk/must have decision, as if he's a gadget freak after the newest smartphone, and he'll probably find out that it's not quite all it's cracked up to be, and certainly not the secret to ultimate happiness.

So what is the secret to ultimate happiness?

I thought I had found it with the very lovely Mrs Godders but yesterday she said I had to start helping her around the house and that I could start by washing up the supper dishes. My mother never asked me to wash dishes FFS.

I ask you who ever heard of a bloke washing up?

You can go off this marriage malarkey very quickly!

Well, the modern chappie does 50% of everything. Which includes housework, cooking, washing up dishes, the lot. If both people go to work it's a little unequal if one can come home and slump in a chair, while the other continues work in another form. Likewise, if both parties are retired, same thing applies. I'm with the lovely Mrs Godders here. :emoticon-0115-inlov

Get off your arse, St.G. :)

Post from Florida-Marlin on SaintsWeb... - (he's a journalist who has worked in the media industry for many years)

Apparently Levy has done what he normally does when confronted by a problem and thrown money at it. I'm told he's trebled Mitchell's salary to £300,000.

But there's no flappage at Saints because he wasn't that key a cog in the machine. Even Mitchell himself has been surprised by all the attention and hype surrounding him.

His role is more of an administrator than a facilitator. lack box? He put the right people in the right job. He wouldn't have much of a clue about the Black Box and what it does. But he appointed a man who does.

Spurs might think they have pulled off a coup, but Levy has typically got the wrong man if he wants the secret to Saints player recruitment. That's Bill Green.

The truth is, Saints have a system which doesn't depend upon one person. The system was enhanced by Mitchell, but Spurs will find that he's not the answer to their dreams.

It depends what their dreams are. If they want to implement a modern scouting set up over a number of years they have made a decent appointment.

If they want a platform to poach some of our best scouts they have possibly made a good appointment.

Does speak to the degree to which backroom staff are underpaid relative to their contribution, though. £100,000 is a good living, but when you're heading up a department that regularly makes decisions involving sums a hundred times that of your annual salary, it suddenly looks like quite a bit less.

What an enjoyable few paragraphs. So he would have gone for Bill Green if he knew more about the roles? Surely Levy would though. Or did he want the administrator?

That's what the executive management get paid for. He puts together information for them to base their decisions on. Somewhere between what he was being paid and what Tottenham are paying him doesn't seem wildly off kilter.

I'm sure that Paul Mitchell was happy with his wages when he came here, so trebling his wages just to facilitate a move is a bit of overkill. Mitchell is undoubtedly not essential as the system here is set in place...the danger will be if he lures others away. He has probably learnt a lot by his experience here in a supportive environment with sufficient funds, so he will know what he has to do to set up a system at Spurs. What I find amazing is that a team like Spurs let their recruitment side slide so badly behind other PL clubs.

Levy might have been alerted to this by Wenger who said some months back that Saints had a terrific system in place and he envied our scouting system.

I read that their former scouts are all working at big clubs around europe now.

Maybe it happened while Harry was in charge and signing the players his brown envelopes recommended.

Being an Essex boy now having moved up her 10 years ago, I always thought WH fans were quite pathetic the way they despise spurs. However I have changed my mind. Levy takes Cappachino off us and now going for backroom staff. As my wife says(shes a spurs fan) its embarrassing.
Cant you run your club without raiding saints you scum bag Levy.

That is a massive win, dude. The profit on Lovren alone probably pays for Mayuka, Forren, and Gazza. Just about every team in the world would kill for that sort of return on investment.

Please don't take anything I say as a negative about Paul Mitchell as I'm sure he is a decent hard working guy who added value to our recruitment team.

But a few weeks ago we were joking about Spurs coming in for our tea lady and this is getting a bit too close to be even funny. How sad that they pick the guy who ranks about 20th in our back room staff and place all their hopes of survival on one pair of shoulders. Spurs fans are hailing him as the new messiah even more than they did Poch for heavens sake.

Good luck Paul. I think you will need it. That £300k salary - if true - is placing a huge responsibility to deliver quickly. Hard to see how it can end happily.

Nah, Levy is building a rod for his own back by poaching all our staff; specially if we continue to do well - Paul Mitchell & Poch can now just say "it worked at Southampton, it's not our fault" (just not as bluntly). Alternatively, Levy has finally seen the light and will back Poch for more than a season in order to build his style into the fabric of spurs & hiring Mitchell is just the first sign of that. Has he finally learnt patience? We know from our history it takes a bit of cash and lots of patience to ascend slowly up the leagues, maybe he's trying to finally buy experience of best practice instead of everything new and shiny - who knows? We'll find out soon enough.

People need to remember we have built a system not just one person holds it together.
