Scotland rolled over and had their bellies tickled for the majority of that second half. They could've made a go of it, even with the early second but Strachan had a howler putting Naismith up on his own and Scotland lost any chance of building up momentum and pressure with it. Shame because it was an entertaining game in the first half. Full credit to England though, there was real potential for a tough game tonight but we never let Scotland in it. Thought Rooney was outstanding and Clyne's showing exactly what we all expected him to do if he was given a chance. Talking of managerial howlers, Hodgson's definitely guilty of one there with Clyne, should've come into the England set up a lot sooner. Can't knock Roy overall though, 6 wins in 6 is a good reaction toan awful World Cup display.
I posted that England would improve after the world cup because of the ex player and the present player ie Balotelli and Suarez. It always happens to England like Spurs about ex players scoring against us. Now there's nothing to stop England like there was in the WC, Roy had no chance of beating that hoodoo.
i was surprised after the initial raucous atmosphere that how quiet the home crowd were. The 6000 England support could be heard and were louder for 80% of the game.
He was, but all these records will be broken by modern day players by virtue of the number of games they play. Rooney will never be an England great, but his record is still very creditable.
If Greavsie had played the same amount of England games,he would be out of sight,no one would beat it
It gives me no satisfaction to beat these minnows, good goals by England but I wish we could beat a top team by 1-3.
Wouldn't have mattered though. He only has the one world cup goal and we all know how rubbish players who only score one world cup goal are.
Some England fans decided the best thing to do was regale the Scots with a rendition of No Surrender. How very Serbian...
I genuinely believe that if Crouch was given 100 games and allowed to take the penalties that he would be way ahead of Rooney in the scoring. A lot of Crouch's caps were as sub and he still has an astonishing scoring record. My main point being that banging in 40+ goals in 100 international games would be possible for many strikers if they were given the opportunities that Rooney has had.
And those are? Hes played as a midfielder, wide fforward, support striker and striker for England so hasnt always been about goals. Be interesting to see how many games hes played as an actual striker. His record would look somewhat more impressive imo. How many would crouch score from midfield or our wide?
I think it depends how you classify Rooney, midfield or striker? Charlton was an inside forward, called a midfielder nowadays. The out and out strikers at the top of the list are, Lineker 48 from 80 appearances, and Greaves with 44 from only 57. Both Spurs players
