Just because you don't understand the rules Fran. :p

I understand the rules, but she's right. It has been said that most popular American sports are built up of short staccato periods of action and medium periods of inaction, to allow the average American to keep up.

Personally, I think those American sports are like that so that the average overweight American can buy their burger and soapy beer, take a bite, a slurp and a belch, and still find time to watch or nod off, whichever is their preference. :)

Fran is right in your opinion, not right over all :p. I like and watch NFL a lot, it is probably my 2nd fave sport. I prefer it far more then F1 or Cricket etc.

I think it's so they can show as many commercials as possible. That's the American Dream.

I like Baseball but American Football just goes on forever. Too much stop start like Rugby League......and West Ham

As opposed to the non-stop frenetic action of cricket? :p

Neither. It's for the tv advertising.

I love watching ice hockey and I can completely understand people who like basketball.

My grip with American football though is the massive squads, sometimes 60 or 70. Most of their "footballers" can only do one specific thing, eg: punt. Also the machismo and childish team names annoy me. But it's not my culture so whatever, I'm probably just naive etc.

However baseball vs cricket? Do me a favour. Cricket is far superior in so many ways, and I'm not even a massive fan of it.

I don't like any american sport except basketball. And basketball is also very popular in Europe, maybe not in Britain so much.

Here in Croatia (and very similar in surrounding countries) football is way ahead any other team sport in terms of popularity and participation. Followed by probably basketball and handball. Very few people in the region like or care about such sports as cricket, rugby, hockey and so on.

is that true or just a myth. I remember seeing the Mary Whitehouse Project sketch on 'World Cup Sotcher'

I remember it being mentioned....entirely possible that it was media generated. However, I can well believe that advertisers/tv companies would ask it casually in the early stages of discussions. Americans are known to be provincial in outlook and not understand how it might be received. So the story may be apocryphal....if not true, it should be :)

Clyne just been on Sky. They showed his two goals...against Liverpool and Arsenal. His stats are so impressive...most clean sheets and tackles won in the league. They compared him to Chambers (in his favour) and said he was in competition with Chambers last season (they didn't say that he won that though). Clyne is upbeat as you would imagine and hopes to play.

Baseball's my favourite US sport which I know people won't understand. Free agency is fun to follow in all US sports.
