I'm very frustrated with a 1-1 scoreline last night! We could have have had the KO stage wrapped up if it hadn't been for a bad refereeing decision and a few careless moments from our strikers! OK--I've said my bit, now I'm going off to have a good sulk for the rest of the day!
Yeah not a great result but then I looked at how the other 3 are doing in their groups and I'm pretty happy with where we are. Win the next game and we top the group. None of the other will top theirs and 2 probably won't even get out the groups. Fine margins though. Score the pen or have the onside goal stand and we win.
You know, I kind of enjoyed the game. I always felt Chelsea would at least draw and that would be OK regarding the group. The Lisbon result helped ease the mind a bit too. I can't help admire a team that puts the effort in that Maribor did.
The way we are playing is just begging for a loss. Hope Jose whips them into shape for Liverpool. Being beaten by them really would be a sour moment.
I was saying this to my brother only a few days ago. He was getting carried away with the start but I had to point out that many a season has gone wayward in the 5-6 weeks pre Xmas. Seems like a while since we put in a real commanding performance, probably the Maribor home game I guess. I'd take any kind of win this weekend but we could do with putting a marker down; especially having thrown away points v the 2 mancs.
You obviously mean Man City and us. Man City need to win both so I agree its unlikely, not impossible but unlikely. However, our group is pretty much as we envisaged once the draw was made. Real were always going to op the group and the remaining three were always going to be fighting for second. We didn't expect Ludogorets to be as good as they've been and we didn't expect a lose to Basel either but with all to play for with two games left, it very open.
Which is why I put we didn't expect to lose to Basel despite it being an way game. We need to win both remaining games but that (beating Ludogorets H&W plus Basel at H) was always the case.
Happens every season and Liverpool are due to hit some sort of form. I really don't think we'll win and Mourinho will play for a draw.
Hope you're wrong Drogs, we are quite different to last year so I am not convinced the annual slump is coming. My only concern against Liverpool is Mourinho, he is way too quick to settle for the draw in my opinion, and absolutely blew it against Utd. Until we try and not just win, but absolutely hammer every team we play until the 90th minute + injury time, we will keep getting draws and dropping points that were in the bag. We need a mature, professional display against Liverpool with no showboating and a more direct approach up front, and I think we will get it. Liverpool had a really hard game against Real, we shouldn't slip up and I don't think we will.
Don't think it was Mourinho's fault against United that Iva got a harsh red (both yellows were questionable). Suddenly being down to 10 men to defend a set piece is tricky and we did not defend it well. We were comfortable and in control against v United. Against City he was more culpable.
