When the new stadium is finally finished, do you think a new name would be appropriate, or would you stick to Ashton Gate, maybe we should name it after our chairman, THE LANSDOWN STADIUM, thoughts posters.

Let's be frank. It's not a new stadium. We couldn't get a new stadium, and this is the second best option for the club.

The Ashton Gate name should stay. I would be open to corporate sponsorship, but only if it were to bring in the kind of money that could finance the club towards a push to the to flight in the long term. Since we can barely get a big-name sponsor for our kit I seriously doubt that'll happen any time soon.

Surely, if any large finance sponcorship came in for Ashton Gate it would be divided up via Bristol Sport amongst all of the sports, Bristol City FC is only 1 of 5 or 6 partners, we must pay rent, we don't own the stadium, the naming rights would have to be for all participents benefit.

We are no longers masters of our own stadium..<grr>

A part of the stadium with a corporate function is very very likely to be named after the clubs benefactor. I have that from a father of a child I coached who has the type of tax bracket that gets him the ear of the Mr Lansdowns and the Merchant Venturers.

Well they tried changing the name of Readings ground and it worked
Then Mike Ashley tried it at Newcastle in the interests of money/greed and was rightly told by the fans where to go. Likewise Hull Tigers !!!

Wouldn't be surprised if its renamed The Bristol Sport Stadium. Hope it stays as Ashton Gate though.

Call it Lansdown Road, play in Green and all speak Irish oh wait that's Lansdowne Road

Can't see it anything apart from Ashton Gate until it's completed for a few years at least

Ashton Gate it must always be for ever & a day! It is synonymous with Bristol City and a great name for a football stadium, I just love it & can't imagine it being called anything else.

Ashton Gate is the name of our historical, spiritual and physical home. The egg chasers have relocated to us.

Watford and other football teams who do or previously have shared grounds with rugby teams largely haven't changed the name of the stadium. Reading being the possible exception if it's even still played there or the change of name coincided with rugby moving in ?

It must stay Ashton Gate, I wouldn't mind a sponsor to be a prefix before the stadiums name.

The new stands could be renamed, perhaps East end for the Wedlock stand and Bristol sport stand for the new Williams.

The Eastend is being called the South stand by fans, the ST and club already. Its obviously no longer going to be an end and will house things like the community trust and family section. It sounds more like the Atyeo. All the talk of the South stand makes me think the Bristol Sport South stand or Community trust South stand is on its way.

It feels nailed on that sections of the stadium will change name for sponsors or BS.

I agree with you Shiny- My gut feeling is that it would be called Bristol Sports Stadium.

The downside of that is BS name their own facility after themselves they will lose out on a massive amount of money..

What brilliant thinker came up with the name of Bristol Sports Stadium? I suppose if you consider that is a sort of a stadium used for sports in Bristol then the naming has evolved through logic but please give me a break and come up with something more earth shaking than that.

Wait a minute I have a suggestion - "A partly modified shed" but then on second thoughts I still love ASHTON GATE!

Are you sure Wizered, that City and/or Bristol are paying rent?

As for a sponsors name, I would expect the revenue to be shared pro rata depending on usage between City and Bris.

I don't honestly know, I was just trying to highlight that the stadium is no longer Bristol City FC and we are 1 of 4 or 5 equals that now share it, I don't think there is a rent charge but the piper has got to be paid somehow and I wonder what the division lines are..

Large financial sponsorship deal - how about Hargreaves Lansdown? They've got a few bob between them!
