Chelsea's starting XI yesterday cost £207.8M - rising to £268.1M when Ramires, Drogba and Schurrle came on. Carvalho, Essien, Shevchenko, Torres, Luiz, Wright-Philips, Mata, Zhirkov, Mutu, Lukaku and Duff are another XI no longer at the club costing the magical £241M Not to mention Anelka, Crespo, Mikel, Veron, Ferreira, Robben, Makelele, Meireles, Malouda, Zouma and Bosingwa are another XI costing £160M It would be remarkable if any Chelsea fan was shocked by the scale of Utd's spending
All that and they could still only beat Rangers by a penalty. Anyway with any luck we'll go up another couple of places by beating Stoke. We can't keep on losing at home and suffering euro hangovers can we? Can we?
No it wasn't. Smalling tried to touch the ball while it under the keeper's control. Ballotelli just turned his back and the keeper kicked it at him.
Yep - and we are above them with a team that cost less than half that and yet our fans reckon we wasted 100m last year and want the people responsible held to account......
its all relative. I think it could be argued that we don't have too much of a luxury with how we spend our money...United can rectify transfer mistakes without selling their best player..i bet we couldn't. therefore it hurts us more in the long run on the pitch if we 'waste' our funds in a similar way to United...and the fans see the consquences more..therefore are probably expecting more from the 'little' we do spend.
Yes, mock all you like, but this is why statisticians don't make good managers. Those stats don't tell you that LVG has dramatically overhauled the squad and whilst the defence clearly still needs some work, his Utd is far stronger than Moyes' team with the addition of some high quality players. It will take time for them to string together results consistently, but a team with RVP, Rooney, Falcao, di Maria, Mata, Herrera, Blind, Fellaini, Carrick, Januzaj (not to mention Valencia, Young, Fletcher and possibly Hernandez) all vying for places in their front six will be a threat in every game they play.
I guess that's right, it doesn't tell you that LVG has splurged £150million whilst Moyes was never given even half of that and had to work with ****.
Does overhauled mean the same as spent a £150m on? With better players he should be doing way better than Moyes. And what stats also don't tell you is that Moyes had much harder games and the CL to contend with as well.
Van Gaal had a net spend of over £113m this summer, Lidls. He bloody well should have a stronger side than Moyes did. Results so far don't reflect that, however and that's without any cup distractions, barring the mauling at MK Dons.
While an excuse - and that's what it is - can be made that Van Galling has to integrate a number of new players into the side, the counterpoint for that is that last season Moyes was lumbered with a similar number of players who needed replacing yet wasn't afforded the opportunity nor the transfer budget to do so.
