Now dont get me wrong, the goalkeeping situation looked pretty dire before PS.

But the rest of the signings along with the names mentioned arent exactly what i had in mind.
Does anyone ponder when we will see a bigname signing other than CMS?

Do you work for the Mercury?! :)

We seem to be going for lower league players who look as if they can make the step up, and proven assets in this league. We all praised Pearson for his ability to do that, especially with lower league players. Personally I was calling for Sven to do something similar and not to resort to 'big name' players (or has beens) on short term contracts, and I'm happy with the kind of player he has shown interest in. Fishing in the lower leagues always has a certain amount of risk in it but if you do your research properly you could be unearthing a gem. I trust Sven to have done that and I have high hopes for the likes of Peltier and CMS.

If by 'big name signing' you mean someone like CMS, a wanted striker, then he's also been after Maynard and Mills, both of which I'd consider big name signings at this level, and you could say the same about Routledge, Whittingham and probably and Danns as well.

I'm hoping we get Maynard and Mills, both would be massive siginings, certainly there is work to do still with the defence and strikeforce especially. It seems as though CMS, St Ledger and Masilela will sign before the pre-season tour abroad - but I fully expect we will see up to 5 more additions after they get back.

Trying not to stress out over here :)

interesting routledge comments here............ I suppose it all depends on what your view of a "big name" is....usually a big name is....... ex premiership.....that means hasbeen, crock, or last pay day merchant....do we really want that? time will tell if sven is doing the right thing....if he ain't, his reputation in this country takes another knock....with a near perfect platform here, he has to succeed or has no place left to go in this country..........

So a big name player in my eyes is a jason koumas meets eider gudjohnson maybe. Im also with sven when he said on sky we require 3 signings (Sounded very confident).
Tbh with loan signings of yakubu kamara naughton etc i figured we can buy similar talent.

Yakubu - talent yes, but was he that good for us? Still don't get the love in with him, he didn't turn up in half the games and it cost us.
Kamara - good player, hardly set the world alight either though, didn't want to be here.

Maynard IMO would be better than those 2. Whether we get him or not is a different matter but you can't knock Sven for going after him.

Naughton was one of a kind, even at this time I'd say he's one of the best right backs in the country. Would have love to have kept him, but we can't offer him Premiership football at this time.

And that's the problem we have, yes we have a lot of money and a world renowned manager, but there's only so many players who are happy to play in the Championship.

Ok the conclusion i came to was we wont compete for autos with players we havent seen before. Koumas and eider were just extreme examples of what type of firepower we need, also the players weve bought seem young no?

It's pretty naive to think that a certain player isn't very good just because they aren't a "big name". I agree with John Fallen, yes we've all heard of the Yak but who cares if he's only interested in the pay cheque?

I'd be interested to know why you think we won't make the autos with "players we haven't seen before". Who had seen a certain centre back at Oxford United called Matthew Elliott? Or Messrs Savage and Lennon at Crewe?

Also, if you "haven't seen" Neil Danns then you should try and watch more Championship football. He has been quality in this league the past couple of seasons. I'm excited by him. Peltier looked brilliant in the play-offs for Huddersfield and looks a great prospect. Schmeichel is established Championship quality.

The only signing so far (to be confirmed) I'm not excited by is Craig Mackail-Smith as last time he was in the Championship he only scored 10...albeit with a poor Peterborough side. In Sven we Trust.

    <ok>

Lets panic about who we've signed at the end of the transfer window anyway, not now.

I am very happy with the palyers we have bought and are linked with, Sven is building with players such Oaisis states(you didn't mention Izzett from Chelski stiffs?)

All around the same age 24-28 and hungry as they have never had a real chance for a pop at winning a league or playing in the prem and this will all be in his conversations with them when negotiating there signings.

Ye? Why was it with the arrival of waghorn and young defenders last season we suffered? Dont forget without naughton davis yakubu kamara we would be nowhere. It was these key additions to the squad that changed our season. Towards the end of the season we were losing goals beyond reason, and we buy a 24? year old defender?

However, that being said i can see so much potential in these youngsters, But no more so than the drivel supplied under sousa. We need those key players to cut the game, and im still waiting.

The best team in the last third of the Championship by a country mile last season were Norwich. Did they have big name signings ? No ! They had a team who worked tirelesly for each other and played to their strengths. I remember the biggest name signing we have ever made - Allan Clarke. Wasnt interested except for the Cup Final.
Give me a Bobby Kellard or Willie Carlin that will run and work and bleed for the team any day. No prima donnas thank you - or players on their last legs. Young , driven and ambitious players will do very nicely - especially with the skill levels that they have. Delighted with the signings so far. Quite a few more to come.

We would have been midtable...which is where we were with those players....

How did Kamara change our season? He arrived at the end of March when our season was all but over and played a handful of games.

Yakubu arrived and started well and we went on a good run. Then he started playing **** and we lost momentum and went on a poor run.

The signing of Naughton was important, fair enough. But the other 2 hardly dragged us from the bottom 3 to the play-offs.

Peltier is very highly rated and is an ex-Liverpool youngster. How do you know he's going to be gash? You really think he's worse than Lamey? Or even Neilson?

We've not even finished our business yet and have some good players lined up still.
