He did it last season. Tinkered about with the formation, moving away from what worked for us. Will he do it for the Madrid game?

Will he drop the 4-2-3-1 system that isn't working?
Will he drop Balotelli who couldn't close down a laptop?

BR has a track history of stubbornness. Surely though, even the most stubborn, myopic viewpoint has to learn to adapt after the abject failures so far this year?

If he doesn't make some changes in this game, then I'm gunna seriously question him. Just saying <ok>
 
dont see ballo being dropped for the madrid game for the simply reason he has more experience than either of borini or lambert.

plus its the only comp he can score in have to make the most of it lol.

and we all thought rafa was stubborn <laugh>
 
I don't know.

i don't think formation is the stubborness. I think he adopts a view on a player. I think borini would need to marry his doughter, get the dirt on rodgers and allen to get a game. not that he deserves one or aything. Lmbert on with badontelly would require the end of the world to occur...

I think honestly he's got his favorites and the rest get screwed.

Manquillo's played very well, jonhson straight in.

Can was straight in away from home after how many weeks out and missing presesaon too? it showed. allen will be back in.

its not all bad, skertl proves you can play into his good books.

I just don't know what he'll do next but i'd rather he fixed the defence than anything.
 
There's an article doing the rounds quoting Carra as saying that young Raheem should start up top, almost in a false 9 position. This would give us the mobility in midfield and the opportunity to break quickly.....which we are bloody good at! I hope he does something along those lines.
 
If Gerrard Balotelli and Johnson start, then BR is a ****ing fool. He has his favourites and people are starting to notice.

well if we expand this concept and apply a few old rodgers formations... a falze 9 indicates more of a 4-3-3 to me. someone has simply got to get beyond sterling to make it work.

my first line up as a result of the idea would be;

mingolet
johnson skertl lovern moreno
gerrard
henderson allen
lallana sterling coutinho​


so how would that work....

not sure... coutinho would play better deeper. I think many would agree with that.... In really many would agree with dropping gerrard altogether and even pushing a henderosn back there.... the fact is we here keep calling it dm but matic is what we are really talking baout. can henderson play as well as matic? I think so.

looks a bit light weight to me.

The next thought is a player like borini... play him instead of markovic?
 
I think Balotelli could be a key player in this game. If you can't get motivated to face the European champions then there is something seriously wrong. Plus he will offer a outlet when we are inevitable under immense pressure (assuming he's motivated)
 
I dunno... I feel he will think he can dive like f in this game and the ref will give him stuff so he might be more up for it but LFc are not under rafa, and we won't put them under pressure so I half expect badontelly to kick someone and get sent off.

It has to be coming very soon.
 
I think the problem with Rodgers is he tries to be too clever, and it ends up biting him in the ass.
We started the season alright than he decided when sturridge went down to change the formation and personnel every week
trying to tweak. Sometimes it works for him (putting Sterling in the middle) but most of the time it doesn't.
He just needs to give the team some consistency rather than chopping and changing tactics everyweek.
Rafa used to do it and he in my opinion has far more tactical nous than Brendan, but it still hurt the team.

I still don't understand why after striking gold in putting Raheem as number 10, and realising he can terrorise teams through the middle.
Hes relegated him back to the wing where his impact is rarely felt. Its almost like hes trying to prove the point of buying lallana and coutinho.

Just seems to be some contradiction about at the moment.

There are threads saying he has favourites and needs to switch it up, then others saying where is the stability, stick with a team..... Can't do both.

The only thing Balotelli get motivated about is what car he can buy next or what he can name his new pet pig.

Mario performs well once in ten games (random numbers, not stats). Playing Real Madrid in the CL must surely be one of the biggest games of his career. If there is a smidgen bit of hope for Mario from me then this is the game he needs to do something. Failure to be motivated for a game like this won't just hammer the final nail in the coffin, it'll burn the ****er too!!!
 
Play Sterling up top WITH Ballotelli - go back to the diamond.

Let Gerrard play in the deeper position with two runners in front of him. It's pointless playing Henderson so deep because you take away his best attributes. He's very good at pressing in the middle or high up the pitch, but I think he's suspect when playing deeper. He's missed a few challenges which could have cost us when he plays that deep.

If anyone should play that deeper role, it has to be Allen or Can.

Then you have Henderson and Allen/Coutinho in front of him.

Lallana at the tip of the diamond.

Sterling and Mario up top.

And I'm not sure how people seem to think Mario is not motivated? Just because you don't scream and shout, doesn't mean that you're not motivated. Lovren is supposedly a leader because he's 'vocal' and waves his arms around but that means jack.
 
I think while we're all waiting for Mario to be motivated, we might have missed the fact that this is what his brand of motivation looks like. It's inner feelings rather than outward expression. He is what the Scots call dour, so extreme excitement for him doesn't look like what it does for the rest of us similarly he's never going to be fast moving, heart on your sleeve, jumping for joy passionate Suarez-like type of player. If he starts scoring that will be the only thing about him that will change, he will still look uninterested and lazy - and I'd take that as long as the goals are coming in!

Having bought him BR has to be stubborn with him at least what else can he do?

Be motivated doesn't mean screaming and shouting. It means being interested in the game, trying hard and putting in a good performance <laugh>

Lovren isn't a vocal leader.

Before he came to us pundits were claiming he was! I don't know whether he was or not because I never took any interest in him but it's funny how he was at Southampton but isn't for us, that shouldn't happen, you don't change character overnight. I know saints fans are claiming it was Fonte who was the leader between them and I understand why they are saying that given how Lovren left them in a bad way, but a look at saints fan forums going back shows that he was a leader for them - have we ruined another player <laugh>
 
Rodgers adapted before during his first season. He realized our players and this league did not suit tikka take stuff so he made things more direct and attacking.
