New Adkins-ism (at least new to me): evolution of the team..said it twice in short interview. Have I missed his beaming face..we have been children lost in the wilderness without him!
does the time spent in the academy have any bearing on the payment? does anyone actually have like a rough guidline of how they assess how much individual players are worth at tribunal?
You're not wrong to be honest. Gobern just stands there, in a prominent place looking moody most of the time.
I think the tribunal system is hit and miss. Think we got £150K for Best a few years back. Can't see us getting much for Gobern though. Plus its not meant to represent their transfer value, its meant to compensate us for the money spent on bringing him through iirc.
Dickson was at Brentford for two years. God knows how it works, but I think both clubs suggest a fee and the the tribunal people have a conflab and decide from there. I think it was low for Dickson because we added extra for a certain number of appearances which was in our favour. Brentford wanted much, much more.
i just watched the interview on saints player....adkins seems raging that oscar left. what a little ****, just upping and leaving like that!
He went for the first team football. Regardless of the fact that we moved Wotton on for him, he would have still been our 4th in line for CM. And it is likely that we will sign a CM over the summer to push him further down the pecking order. Plus it sounds like the deal we offered him was quite lucrative. He just wanted the guarantee of football now, bit short sighted as he probably would have got more and more of a chance to prove himself as the season goes on.
did you not listen to the interview? adkins clearly says he deliberately let wotton leave so that oscar would play more of a part. he must have said to him that he would be playing more games this year, so oscar has just given nigel the middle finger by rejecting a new contract.
Tbh, I'm not fussed that he's gone. If he's not interested then whatever, I doubt he'll even be first team at Huddersfield. Puncheon will be next, we'll soon be above his level.
there's playing more of a part, then there's being first choice which he has a far better chance of being at uddersfield. I agree that he shouldn't have gone as he would have been given chances (like he was last season) but it wasn't a financial decision, I can't imagine for one minute that they offered him more money than we did.
I fail to see why anybody is annoyed at losing Gobern. Quite frankly thank **** he's gone if he was in line to be given more first team action, he's saved Adkins from making what, in my eyes, is a mistake. The only reason I would have offered him a cnotract would have been to get compensation from huddersfield.
We backed out of the Sharp deal, but Adkins confirmed (or rather didn't deny) that we offered the big money that was being bandied about (nearly 3 million). He said it showed the support he was getting from the Chairman. So that money is still available. Did we back out over players personal terms or have we got an eye on someone else? This is the road to madness.
Am I the only one who's wondering why the frig Gobern would leave us for League 1 football? Much as I enjoyed last season, it's hardly the big time playing host to Tranmere, Brentford and Walsall etc. The lad can't have that much faith in his own ability to be honest.
