http://www.cardiff.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=373593 Who would be your choice? For me, Turner all the way.
Cannot see how OGS valued him at £3m. His greatest assert may be at offensive set pieces. Turner's main problem is his distribution, which was so apparent last season but at this level it may not be so important. Mind you why isn't Connelly in the equation? In conclusion not much between the 3.
Just wonder what we're looking for at CB alongside the obvious choice of Manga. Do we need to get back to basics and put in an excellent "body on the line" defender like Turner, or concentrate on playing out from the back. I'd back Tuner every time time if we're going to park the bus, but up till now, that's been his limit. He has no vision of what to do with the ball at his feet once he's won it. Other than lumping it, he relies on the likes of Whitts (and Medel before) taking it from him. That always starts us off in back in our last third on the pitch every time and then have a long way to get to the other end. Having a slow midfield in front of him doesn't help that either. Don't quite understand all this criticism of Morrison. He's not in the Manga class that's for sure, but he's not the donkey everyone seems to making him out to be. He's reasonably quick and gets to the ball as fast as anyone else we've got in that position, but his backing off that Blackpool guy to allow him his goal is a bad trait I've noticed a couple of times with him. Connolly possesses most of the assets of his fellow contenders for the CB slot. He has quick thinking ability and can certainly use his feet as well as his head - I'd keep him there alongside Manga whenever possible if he were fit. Turner or Morrison in there would be an option if Manga or Connolly were out, and which one then dependent upon the game plan.
It all depends on tactics. Our midfield has totally failed to even establish a 50/50 possession split so being as we seem to play without the ball then Turner all the way. If Slade is intending to hopefully get us a little more of the ball then Connolly 1st, Morrison 2nd (the negative comments above are very harsh imo) then Turner.
my CB rankings: 1 Manga 2 Cala 3 Connelly (close call with cala. perhaps until cala is up to speed after being neglected for so long) 4 the bin man outside 5 3 legged dog down the street 6.. you see where this is going only caulker was a worst investment - oh how I love watching QPR's games these days
double posting is for awesome people only I agree...I would've liked to have seen Hudson with manga. You cant just leave a player like Hudson out all season then expect miracles after a shocking start from all area's of the pitch.
Turner. Id also make him captain. Connelly 3rd choice centre back. The sooner Turner is back and fully fit the better.
Back to topic Turner for me as he is a natural left footer, Morrison gets slated by some but imo he is the best man to put in on the right side if Manga was not available. Connelly and Cala are fantastic players to have as back up but they all suffer with poor positional sense and the having to tackle or pass with there right foot when played on the left hand side. Really hope that RS can get the best out of Guerra, he is by far the best forward we have.
Yep Mr Caulker is part of another diabolic defence. Must be the other 3 guys again because apparently he's an England international in waiting I watched the game yesterday, I just can't shake the opinion he's not a very good defender. He backs off constantly. Gerrard should have scored with the effort that was narrowly wide with Caulker backing off. The 2nd own goal was terrible. He just seems a very easy CB to play against and that's a very bad thing. Rio seems to have taken the blame for his partnership with Caulker failing, I wonder how long before Harry drops Dunne to fix his cb problems, because it definitely wont be Caulkers fault he's class ffs...............
