I agree with some others that he might be a better winger, he's clearly an outstanding footballer I don't know how the hell he was playing in the lower divisions of Scotland and he's skipping past international superstars without a care in the world.
Having said that I don't get carried away any more, Brady use to look incredibly exciting as did Aluko and where are they know. Consistency will be the measure for Robertson but so far he looks a cut above.
This is exactly the kind of thing us Dundee United fans were saying early last season when were were questioning exactly why it looked like we were going into the season with an untested 19 year old who had never played full time football as our only left back!, then we saw he was actually very good, then we said he had to do it consistently..... and he did. He never really had even one "bad" game as such, which just adds to the impressive nature of his step up. We expected him to have a few nightmare games just down to complete inexperience (like our previous left back who ended up moving to Lech Poznan and is vastly inferior to Andy in every way), it never happened with Andy.
His drive and determination is just ridiculously good, even when he had only played 3 or 4 games for us... if we went a goal down, he was the one picking up the experienced players and driving the team on. If there's no options on in front of him, he'll take things on himself, he won't think twice about taking the ball the full length of the pitch and having a go himself (something he did to great effect for us, very good finisher too).
Obviously the EPL is still another big step for him from the SPL, but there's no doubt he can handle it. He is playing a slightly different role for you than he did for us, so he will only get fitter... not that he is unfit, he is very fit, he has only trained full time just over a year so he's really still adapting to that!.
Things he does need to improve on... positionally he can get caught out, mostly down to his desire to get forward. And he is prone to picking up the odd silly yellow, but apart from that, he's already got all the tools, just minor tweaking required here and there.
I've seen quite a lot of young players of huge talent up close (including Gauld aka mini Messi who we also sold to Sporting Lisbon for 3 million recently and is also a player with ridiculous potential), but in my view, Robertson on balance is probably the best one. He not only has the talent, but the consistency and application. What i saw of Bale when he was younger (obviously not as close up as Andy), he wasn't as complete a player either.
Delighted how well he is doing and hope Hull have a fantastic season with him!
