[EDIT: But it'd possibly be very serious if it spreads out of West Africa]

One of the victims was an American fella who was seen throwing up on a plane, ebola is transmitted by contact with body fluids so anyone on that plane who used the bog or touched the guy (sweat) could have contracted it.

I know a doctor who is really concerned about this as there isn't a cure, once the 21 days are up (you don't know you have in in this time) you start getting flu like symptoms then in the later stages start bleeding from the gums and eyes. Their concern is the no cure.

Someone mentioned stop the African countries coming into Europe! Bit late as there were 100's here for the Games and one of them from Sierra Leon did a runner as he didn't want to go back due to being scared of catching it.

<laugh>

Of course.

If you look at the other times there has been outbreaks with similar amounts of people passing away, with the right treatment and making sure that we don't allow it to spread it has easily been stopped and the number of cases has fallen back to zero within years. That was when we wasn't anywhere near as health conscious as we are now.

Seems like a visit to Anlaby Rd is off my itinerary then....

As Ebola isn't air borne, it should be easy to avoid contracting. Maybe this is a good thing....only the idiots will die ?

Only the Tip of the iceberg at the minute without a real cure. Whole of Africa looking at an oncoming wave of death.

Tick tock..

You have to love the scare mongers......

It does not have a 90% mortality rate, that is the maximum recorded, the recent outbreaks are nearer 40-50% but when diagnosed quickly & treatment started the mortality rate drops as low as 20% (some strains of the flu have higher mortality rates than that) It is not airborne & requires person to person transmission ..... in highly developed Western countries with excellent sanitation & good nutrition the risk of a large scale outbreak are minute
