The Dutch are currently losing 1-0 at home to Kazakhstan at HT. The bookies will be pleased. To make things worse for them, their neighbours Belgium are 3-0 up against Andorra, with two goals from De Bruyne and one from our own Nacer Chadli.
Bale almost scored an unbelievable goal at the end there and then puts in a peach of a corner for Robson-Kanu who just needed to flick it in from a couple of yards out but he gets all his forehead on it and ends up almost sending it back to Bale. Wiliiams was frustrated with not finishing an earlier set piece but that last one was awful.
The Bale goal would have been another extraordinary one for his collection. It was pretty much a 3 or 4 on 1 and to get it in from where he was...unbelievable.
Chadli continued his scoring run with Belgium tonight. In non-Spurs related news Chiellini got a hattrick tonight scoring all 3 in a 2-1 win over Azerbaijan!
(Edit) Just found out the Guardian had the wrong starting lineup, and Lamela started--subbed after 61 minutes. Too bad he couldn’t have added a goal against Brazil to the one he got against Germany.
If Messi is the best player in the world, how bad has football got!,he's nowhere near Maradona, and even less than Pele
I think at this point Ronaldo is the best in the world. To me, Maradona was the best ever. Even in his fat cokehead phase, I was pretty sure his passing was going to get Argentina another world cup if he hadn’t lit up the piss test. Messi is a great player, but he doesn’t have the all around skills Maradona or Pele had. He’s very much a 4-3-3 forward who’s great at creating good chances with his movement and dribbling. Even so, his finishing, while good, isn’t exceptional. I wonder if he would have seemed nearly as good on any team other than Barca, where he excels at making the last pass into the net. He’s certainly never been outstanding for Argentina. Maradona, on the other hand, was nearly equally good for Argentina and Napoli. You get the feeling he would have been great for anyone, any time. I also wonder if the game hasn’t improved so much in half a century that Pele’s skills wouldn’t be nearly so exceptional today. Davies has looked reasonably good for us, but it can’t be fun when you get your big move and the dodgy left back you figure to replace ups his game and keeps you on the bench. Rose always had the speed to reach greater heights than Davies, and now his decision making has gone from appalling to meh, he’s one of our better starters.
I don't think he did much wrong actually. Being shoe-horned into a back 3 with a manager that doesn't have a very good grasp on tactics give him a good excuse though. Bale was the only one who looked lively for Wales after the opening 15 minutes and even he took about an hour after that opening flurry to come back to life. Hennessy had a great game too but the rest were average.
2 and a half years Hodgson's had and we still have 4/5 s**t performances for every good one. Can't blame the players or a lack of quality, there's just no style to our play, no balance in the selections and no real organisation. Get the t**t out and give the job to someone who won't just pick the same old flops.
It's the ultimate poisoned chalice. No manager worth having would take the job. I suppose you might get somebody looking for a late pension top-up.
Which would explain why QPR's current manager said he'd sign any contract the club offered, yet when the club actually offered him a new contract he lost his pen...
