OK - it now seems that Watford DIID sack McKinlay and had Jokanovic lined up - this is not how I like to see my football club run.

Jokanovic had better be better than 3rd Division Spain standarads or there will be a lot of unhappy Watford fans.

Wikipedia says he was a defensive midfielder. I hope he can fix our defence.

Hornets' owner Gino Pozzo comments on the appointment of experienced Serb as Head Coach at Vicarage Road...

SLAVIŠA JOKANOVIĆ has been appointed as Head Coach at Watford FC, replacing Billy McKinlay with immediate effect.

A former Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro international, Jokanović brings extensive coaching experience to Vicarage Road.

He led Partizan Belgrade to an unprecedented 'double double' in the Serbian League - the SuperLiga and Serbian Cup - two seasons in succession, 2007/08 and 2008/09.

The ex-midfielder's playing career spanned three countries, including La Liga in Spain and a two-year stint at Chelsea in the Premier League.

Jokanović has added to his coaching experiences after Belgrade with a title-winning spell in Thailand at Muangthong United in 2012-13, a campaign which saw the club remain unbeaten throughout.

He has also served Levski Sofia, in Bulgaria's A Group, and most recently Spanish club Hercules.

Watford FC owner Gino Pozzo commented: "Our job is always to act in the best long-term interests of this football club. There can be no compromise on this - whatever the circumstances.

"I fully support and endorse the view from our technical staff that, given the talented squad which has been assembled and our position in the league, an experienced head coach with a winning pedigree is of primary importance to help ensure the success we are all striving for."

"The supporters of Watford have always been very understanding towards our project here and I am certain they will continue to do everything they can to support the new coach and his squad."

His 'winning pedigree' refers to successfull stints in Serbia and Thailand - which is apparently of more worth than having 6-7 years coaching experience at Fulham. Basically they are saying 'we do not want a British manager' under any circumstances. They have built up a cupfull of goodwill with us Hornets - close to the top of our league, a new stand and financial security. But my 'cup' is draining fast.

He won the title with Partisan two years in a row and then left "by mutual" consent - which usually means a disagreement or poor results, I would guess that leaving in September it could have been about transfer monies. Apparently he left an open letter to the fans but I cannot find that anywhere.

Then he wins a title in Thailand - not exactly a foremost footballing country and leaves after a year. He then lasts just over 3 months at Levski Sofia and is sacked for poor results. Hercules - as posted by OFH above - looks good in Spain's 3rd teir

This is not exactly the stuff of legends. He has a lot to prove - but I guess we can only support him and wish him well

I've said my piece on the McKinlay thread but I'm pretty disgusted at how the management of the club have acted in this matter.

I'm prepared to see anybody given a chance, whether as a callow beginner or seasoned campaigner, but like a lot of other people on here I am underwhelmed at the way things have been managed. I'm also surprised; up until now I've had confidence in the firm handed way the Pozzos have run things. That's firm as in efficient and assertive, not totally dictatorial and unpredictable. It isn't the Watford Way.

Or are we naive to talk about the Watford Way? This is the club that appointed Harry Bassett, Vialli etc etc

Agree with everything you have written on it Chris - I do not like to see people used in this way. I truly hope McKinlay finds another job soon - who knows we may have got him a good job at Fulham.

Good point about the Watford Way Gordon. However us fans know what we believe is the Watford Way - GT started it and the fans adopted it and have held largely true - even through the likes of Bassett, Petchey and Bas.

Against this background and with a none too impressive CV, Joker had better perform well from Day 1 - he has an excellent squad and needs to use it. I hope he succeeds.

Joking aside (ahem) regardless of what level he's managed at let us remember that the Pozzp's generally know what they're doing and they have always acted with our best interests at heart. This is what they do. It may be a little bit sour for now but we'll see. No happy clapping from me but I will support the new man as he, our owners and us want to succeed. I do not agree with you Leo regarding the management but I see how you formed your opinion.

Good luck to him, after recent managers he might need it. The situation is a joke.

Hope we just try to rip other teams apart, got good enough players to do it if they are unleashed correctly.

Everyone needs to put in a good shift and impress the new manager, wait a minute, maybe that is the Pozzo strategy now?!

    Watford's managerial timeline
31 August - Beppe Sannino quits amid reports of an unhappy squad
2 September - Oscar Garcia appointed head coach
29 September - Garcia quits for health reasons, Billy McKinlay appointed
7 October - McKinlay replaced by Slavisa Jokanovic

    From this article:

"The supporters of Watford have always been very understanding towards our project here and I am certain they will continue to do everything they can to support the new coach and his squad."

Yes, but I am disgusted at the way they treat some people especially managers, maybe Dyche's sacking was the obvious sign we all missed.

If you add to that timeline the games Garcia's assistants took charge when he was ill, Jokanovic will effectively be the 6th person to be in charge of the team this season at Hillsborough a week Saturday.

Hornet-fez.........Are the Pozzos really acting on our behalf or are they really a money making machine that will ride roughshod over anything and anybody to get what they want. Have the Pozzos made the mistake of showing us what they are really like, Italian business men!
We knew right at the beginning that this business family chop and change managers like different makes of pizza toppings, I'm not even going to learn this new blokes name because he won't be around for long
Anyway I've got my Wednesday tickets and looking forward to the game........................COYH's

Very true, and was it both assistants in charge? so that could mean 5th and 6th and Jokanovic 7th?!

It was, but as Jokanovic is the 4th official head coach, then my initial statement about him being the 6th person in charge is still valid.
